Read And Be Lazy
    Chapter Index

Wen Sinian drove Xu Yan and his grandmother to the hospital for her follow-up checkup. The two sat in the back seat, and throughout the ride, Xu Yan kept catching the eyes of the person in the front seat through the rearview mirror.

He couldn’t make a scene in front of his grandmother, but why wasn’t this man focusing on driving? What was he up to?

And who gave him permission to wash his clothes?

At the hospital, Wen Sinian had already arranged everything in advance. He accompanied Xu Yan and his grandmother through each step of the checkup, paying the fees, printing reports, finding seats for them to rest, buying them water and drinks, and carefully asking the doctor about every precaution after the examination. His meticulous care even made the doctor assume he was the elderly woman’s own grandson.

Fortunately, Xu Yan’s grandmother was in good health, and the atmosphere in the car on the way back was much lighter.

His grandmother had long noticed the subtle dynamics between the two but had been pretending not to. Today, however, she couldn’t keep up the act.

“Sinian, can Grandma call you that? You’re a few years older than Xu Yan, but to Grandma, you’re still a child.”

Wen Sinian replied, “Of course, you can.”

“I’m so happy to see you back. Have you taken care of your business?”

Wen Sinian answered, “More or less.”

“That’s good. Make sure to take care of yourself. I know young people like you get busy with work and forget about your health. Xu Yan is the same, he used to stay up until midnight studying. How can his body handle that?” His grandmother naturally shifted the topic to Xu Yan. “When you weren’t here, he ate so little and stayed cooped up in his room all day. If it weren’t for Nanli and the others dragging him out, I don’t know how long he would have stayed locked up.”

Xu Yan, embarrassed, nudged his grandmother’s arm. “Okay, Grandma, don’t talk about that…”

If she kept going, he’d lose all face.

“What? Am I not telling the truth? Tell me, didn’t you miss Sinian too?”

Xu Yan wished he could disappear under the car seat. “I didn’t.”

His grandmother knew him best and saw right through his denial. “Oh, really? Then it must have been my mistake. But we can’t keep Sinian tied down at our house as your bodyguard. That boy has a bright future ahead of him. Now that your exams are over, we’ll have your father find you a new bodyguard when you start college. For now, just have a clean break with Sinian…”

Before she could finish, Xu Yan had already caught her meaning and interrupted, “No!”

His grandmother asked, “What do you mean, no?”

“He can’t leave. And I don’t want a new bodyguard,” Xu Yan said.

His grandmother asked, “Didn’t you just say you didn’t want him back?”

Xu Yan quickly corrected himself, “I do.”

His grandmother couldn’t help but laugh. “Sweetheart, how long did you think you could hide this from Grandma?”

Xu Yan reacted instantly and saw the smile on Wen Sinian’s lips.

Why did it feel like these two had conspired to trick him?

He reached forward from the back seat and pinched Wen Sinian’s arm hard. “Did you tell Grandma?”

Even though he had agreed to be with Wen Sinian, they had also agreed to keep their relationship a secret. Who told him to spill the beans?

Wen Sinian’s arm was all muscle, and Xu Yan couldn’t even budge it with both hands. Frustrated, he slapped Wen Sinian’s arm.

“It must have been you! You promised not to tell Grandma! How could you lie to me?”

Before Wen Sinian could respond, his grandmother spoke up first.

“You child, why are you hitting people? Sinian is driving. Don’t hit him. Sit back properly.”

Xu Yan reluctantly sat back. His grandmother said to him, “It wasn’t Sinian who told me. I figured it out myself. Do you think I couldn’t see through your little schemes? If I couldn’t, wouldn’t that make all these years I’ve lived for nothing?”

Xu Yan muttered under his breath, “I hid it so well. How did you find out?”

His grandmother affectionately ruffled his hair. “When someone truly cares for you, Grandma can tell at a glance.”

Ever since Wen Sinian had been at the Xu household, his grandmother had seen everything he did. That’s why she felt at ease with Xu Yan being with him.

No matter what, Wen Sinian would never do anything to hurt Xu Yan.

“However, since Sinian’s identity hasn’t been made public yet, if you still want to keep it a secret, you two need to be more careful,” his grandmother reminded them. “Don’t let anyone find out about your relationship for now.”

Wen Sinian agreed. The mess in the Wen family was almost cleaned up, and after this, there would be no one left in the Wen family who could rival him. He absolutely couldn’t allow Xu Yan to be in any danger at this critical moment.

Fortunately, Xu Yan was on summer break, so Wen Sinian could stay by his side at all times. The weather was hot, and Xu Yan was too lazy to go out. Occasionally, he would go out with Shangjia and Shen Nanli, but most of the time, he stayed at home. Wen Sinian didn’t want Xu Yan to go out and attract unnecessary attention. Almost every time they went out, Xu Yan would draw a crowd of admirers—people asking for his WeChat, phone number, trying to flirt, sending flowers, and even someone who tried to grab his hand. Wen Sinian, standing right beside him, almost twisted that man’s arm off. Xu Yan had to pull him away, holding his arm tightly. Shangjia and Shen Nanli handled the aftermath, while Xu Yan dealt with Wen Sinian.

Xu Yan was also helpless. His boyfriend was too possessive and had explosive combat skills. He always told Wen Sinian not to be so impulsive in public, that those people were just coming up to say a few words, not real threats. There was no need to disable someone’s arm on the spot.

Wen Sinian didn’t listen at all. He looked Xu Yan up and down several times, thinking he looked especially beautiful today. No wonder that toad earlier had the audacity to try and hit on him. Next time, he needed to find a way to mark Xu Yan, preferably something that would make people stay far away.

The second time Xu Yan wore a beautiful outfit and was about to go out, Wen Sinian put something on his wrist at the door, a colorful plastic spring bracelet, with the other end attached to his own wrist.

Xu Yan lifted his hand and shook it, looking at Wen Sinian. “What is this?”

He had only seen these kinds of leashes on people walking their dogs, one end attached to the owner, the other to the dog.

Wen Sinian, without batting an eye, said, “A tether.”

Xu Yan frowned and tugged at it a couple of times. There was a small lock on the bracelet, so he held his hand out to Wen Sinian. “I don’t want to wear this. Take it off.”

Wen Sinian brought his hand to his lips and kissed it. “There are a lot of people outside. I’m afraid I’ll lose you. This way, you won’t get lost.”

Xu Yan said, “I’m just going to the mall. How can I get lost? And I definitely don’t want to wear this outside where there are so many people. It’s weird. Take it off. It’s so ugly, and it doesn’t match my outfit at all.”

He was wearing a stylish, designer blouse with slightly fitted jeans, a silver necklace around his neck, and his slightly long hair casually tousled. He looked youthful and vibrant, his delicate and handsome face captivating.

Such a good-looking outfit, yet his wrist was adorned with a colorful dog leash.

Wen Sinian, using a mix of persuasion and coaxing, still refused to take it off.

This tether was actually used to prevent children from getting lost, but Wen Sinian was using it on Xu Yan.

As soon as the two appeared in the mall, they attracted a lot of attention. The tether on their wrists was one thing, but the couple-like vibe they gave off, perfectly matched from hair to shoes, was another.

Xu Yan’s expression wasn’t great, practically being led by the hand by Wen Sinian the entire time.

Wen Sinian first took him to an ice cream shop and, breaking his usual rules, bought him a large one. Normally, he only allowed Xu Yan to have two at most, but today, to cheer him up, he relaxed his standards.

Xu Yan’s mood improved as he ate.

Then, he directed Wen Sinian to buy this and that for him. Wen Sinian didn’t refuse, buying him snacks, allowing him to drink iced drinks and iced milk tea, and even pre-ordering a blind box that Xu Yan had wanted for a long time.

Xu Yan’s face finally showed a hint of a smile, and only then did Wen Sinian take him to meet up with Shang Jia and Shen Nanli.

The two of them were shocked by the scene, but Xu Yan quickly silenced them with food and drinks.

“Don’t ask. Let’s just go and have fun.”

Shang Jia ate the chocolates Wen Sinian had bought, and Shen Nanli sipped the milk tea Wen Sinian had purchased. Both of them, feeling a bit guilty for accepting his generosity, didn’t say much.

After all, they were used to seeing Wen Sinian always by Xu Yan’s side. Now, the only difference was that the person who used to follow behind Xu Yan was standing right beside him.

Whether he was a bodyguard or a boyfriend, the level of care he provided didn’t seem to differ.

The four of them played until evening before parting ways.

On the way back, Xu Yan was so tired he could barely keep his eyes open. Wen Sinian carried him back to his room.

The tether that had been on his wrist all day was finally removed. Wen Sinian examined Xu Yan’s wrist and saw a small red mark where the band had rubbed against his delicate, fair skin. The material of the tether wasn’t the best.

Wen Sinian threw the tether into the trash and found some ointment to apply to Xu Yan’s wrist.

After that, Xu Yan never saw that colorful dog leash again.

They could be intimate in public, but at home, they were careful to maintain their distance.

Xu Yan was still the high-and-mighty young master, and Wen Sinian was still the loyal bodyguard.

But late at night, when everything was quiet, Xu Yan’s door would quietly open, and a shadow would silently slip onto his bed.

Wen Sinian was so familiar with the layout of Xu Yan’s room that he could accurately pull the soft body from under the covers into his arms, even in the dark.

If Xu Yan was asleep, Wen Sinian wouldn’t wake him. He would gently kiss his lips, kissing him until he was breathless and his eyes fluttered open. Only then would he release him, giving him a moment to rest before slowly kissing him again.

If Xu Yan was awake, it was even better. Wen Sinian could skip the step of waking him up and directly pull him into his arms, kissing him fiercely to make up for the longing he couldn’t express during the day.

At first, Xu Yan knew to resist. Before going to bed, he would secretly lock his door, certain that Wen Sinian wouldn’t be able to get in.

But who knew Wen Sinian had already made copies of all the keys to his room, including the one to the wardrobe he always kept locked.

One time, Wen Sinian took out a dress from the wardrobe and made Xu Yan wear it. Another time, they almost went all the way on the bed.

But Xu Yan was scared. His whole body trembled pitifully, and he shook his head, tears in his eyes, saying he didn’t want to. Wen Sinian’s heart ached, and in the end, he used other methods to satisfy them both. Then, while Xu Yan was lost in passion, Wen Sinian suddenly pinched his waist and lifted him up, flipping up his dress and making him sit on his face.

Xu Yan panicked and tried to twist away.

The hem of the dress covered most of Wen Sinian’s face, leaving only a pair of sharp eyes visible. Those eyes were filled with dark, chaotic desire, staring up at him unblinkingly. His fingers locked tightly around Xu Yan’s waist, leaving him no room to escape.

That night, Xu Yan didn’t remember how he fell asleep—or if he had passed out.

He was so dehydrated that Wen Sinian even had to feed him water.

Xu Yan didn’t dare make a sound the whole time, biting his lip so hard that the next morning, he found he had bitten the skin.

Of course, this was also Wen Sinian’s fault. Wen Sinian diligently applied ointment to his lips and was ordered not to kiss him for several days.

Day after day, Xu Yan grew accustomed to waking up every morning in a familiar and safe embrace.

When he was half-asleep, all he needed to do was reach out to Wen Sinian, and he would be carried to the bathroom to wash his face and brush his teeth. His clothes and shoes would be put on for him, and then he would go downstairs to eat. If he was too lazy to go downstairs, the servants would bring the food up. Xu Yan didn’t need to lift a finger; he could just lean against Wen Sinian and open his mouth to be fed warm meals.

Even though he had been used to being waited on since he was little, no one had ever taken care of him to this extent—only Wen Sinian.

Even when Xu Yan was in a bad mood, hitting and cursing at Wen Sinian, it was all accepted without complaint. To Wen Sinian, even Xu Yan’s resistance was no different from flirting.

Xu Yan’s college entrance exam results had already come out. As expected, he got into North City University. It was then that he learned Wen Sinian was his alumnus, having also graduated from North City University before going abroad and then returning to become his bodyguard.

Back then, Xu Yan had assumed Wen Sinian wasn’t highly educated and hadn’t dared to ask where he went to school. He never expected that Wen Sinian had known all along that it was his dream school and had kept it from him.

Xu Yan used this as an excuse to make Wen Sinian take him to visit North City University. Wen Sinian agreed without hesitation.

On the agreed-upon day for the visit, Xu Yan discovered it wasn’t just the two of them. Wen Sinian had also invited two friends, one of whom was a long-haired man who was very handsome and outgoing. As soon as they met, he took Xu Yan’s hand and introduced him to everyone.

Wen Sinian and the other person walked behind them, discussing serious matters the whole way, but their eyes never left Xu Yan’s back.

Chen Xun was quite curious. “Isn’t his college entrance exam over? Why are you still acting as his bodyguard at his house? Haven’t you had enough of babysitting?”

    Wen Sinian smiled. “Not enough.”

He wanted to continue being with Xu Yan through his college years, graduation, work, and then take him abroad to get married, spending the rest of their lives together.

Chen Xun reminded him, “There’s been some trouble from the third branch of the Wen family lately. You should have heard the news. Be careful.”

    “Mm.”

The two of them talked behind while Xu Yan and Lin Xingxian chatted up front.

Xu Yan had never met someone so talkative. In no time, he learned a lot about Wen Sinian from Lin Xingxian. It turned out the three of them had been childhood friends, which explained their close relationship. Wen Sinian trusted them enough to let them know about his relationship with Xu Yan, so they must be reliable.

Lin Xingxian asked, “How long have you two been together?”

Xu Yan obediently replied, “Not long. We officially got together after my college entrance exams. Before that, he had confessed to me, but I didn’t agree.”

Lin Xingxian laughed heartily. “So he confessed to you and got rejected? Well done! You’re so small, but you’ve got guts. Aren’t you afraid he’ll fly into a rage and hit you? Could you even take one of his punches?”

Xu Yan had a bit of confidence in this regard. “He won’t hit me.”

Lin Xingxian leaned closer to him. “How can you be so sure, little cutie?”

“Because he likes me a lot. He wouldn’t bear to do it,” Xu Yan said with certainty. “Besides, he’s my bodyguard. He should protect me. If he dares to bully me, I’ll fire him.”

Lin Xingxian found him adorable and couldn’t help but pinch his cheek. “You’re so fierce.”

Xu Yan nodded and added maliciously, “And I won’t pay him.”

    Lin Xingxian couldn’t stop laughing.

This was the most vicious thing the kind little master could come up with. No wonder Wen Sinian always kept him hidden and refused to bring him out to meet them. He was such a cute and innocent treasure.

The four of them had dinner together before returning. Xu Yan had a great time and got to meet Wen Sinian’s best friends.

This meant they had officially met each other’s close friends, signifying that their relationship had taken another step forward.

That night, Xu Yan moved a lot, even crying in Wen Sinian’s arms without shedding tears, just clinging to his neck and humming, kissing his neck randomly.

Wen Sinian was driven wild by his actions but couldn’t truly do anything to him. In the end, he made Xu Yan close his legs and held his soft little hand on his thigh.

Afterward, Xu Yan was so tired his hands and legs ached. Wen Sinian carried him into the bathroom and gave him another bath. Halfway through, Xu Yan fell asleep, and Wen Sinian dried his body, hugged him, and put him back to bed.

He kissed Xu Yan’s cheek before falling asleep with him.

Their sweet days continued until there was only half a month left before school started. Then, something happened in the Wen family.

This time, Wen Sinian had time to inform Xu Yan in advance that he needed to go back for a while. He promised he would return soon. Xu Yan reluctantly said goodbye, making him promise to call every day.

For the first two days, Wen Sinian was able to video call Xu Yan every night. After that, there was no more news.

Xu Yan had already known this trip would be dangerous, but he couldn’t stop him. It was Wen Sinian’s family matter, involving many people, and he couldn’t understand the complexities. He couldn’t help, so all he could do was wait at home.

But he was truly worried about Wen Sinian’s safety and couldn’t wait any longer.

Wen Sinian’s phone was unreachable. After hesitating for a long time, Xu Yan called Lin Xingxian.
