Read And Be Lazy
    Chapter Index

The layers of the wedding dress billowed like petals, with multiple sheer overlays. The innermost layer was so thin it was almost transparent, clinging to the body beneath.

And beneath it, there was nothing.

Xu Yan was pinned against the mirror, unable to move. He glanced down at the wedding dress.

Delicate lace was embroidered with lifelike flowers, as if emitting an intoxicating fragrance. The voluminous skirt spread softly from the corseted waist, concealing everything underneath.

From the outside, it looked as though he was simply leaning against the mirror for support. No one would guess the torment he was enduring beneath the fabric.

Like a starving beast suddenly catching its prey, Wen Sinian was determined to devour every last morsel of sweetness and flesh.

And that’s exactly what he did, with relentless, ravenous energy.

Xu Yan had dressed himself so beautifully for their anniversary, practically offering himself up. It would have been a waste not to indulge.

Xu Yan tried weakly to pull Wen Sinian out from under the dress, but all his strength was spent just trying to stay upright. One hand braced against the mirror, the other clapped over his mouth, but stifled sobs still escaped.

    “Y-You… I can’t stand…” he gasped.

Wen Sinian didn’t answer with words.

Xu Yan’s lashes grew damp, his usually bright doe eyes now half-lidded, wet and pitiful.

He wasn’t lying, the dress weighed over ten pounds, most of it pressing against his hips through the corset. With one leg lifted, he was completely off-balance.

His leg suddenly gave out, and he collapsed,

Not onto the floor, but directly onto Wen Sinian’s face, as if offering himself willingly.

    Xu Yan whimpered.

    Click. Click.

A series of rapid sounds came from beneath the skirt.

Xu Yan trembled, eyes widening in shock.

‘This scoundrel, was he recording again?’

    Absolutely shameless.

Wen Sinian’s low, husky voice emerged, slightly muffled from his current occupation: “Hand me the camera.”

    The camera?

    Oh no.

Xu Yan turned his head toward the cabinet. He had been filming as he set up the surprise, and in his haste to try on the dress, he had left the camera running on the cabinet…

It had been recording everything, how he had put on the dress by himself, how Wen Sinian had kissed him while gripping his waist, and now…

Xu Yan fumbled for the camera, his arms shaking. The red recording light was still on. He didn’t even know when Wen Sinian had noticed.

He tried to delete the embarrassing footage, but a sharp bite on his inner thigh made him yelp, and he dropped the camera onto the voluminous skirt.

Wen Sinian pushed against his waist, pressing him back against the mirror. Xu Yan was trembling all over.

The skirt was lifted from the front, bunching up around the satin-wrapped corset.

A pair of sharp, dark eyes appeared first, half of Wen Sinian’s face still hidden by the fabric. If Xu Yan weren’t experiencing it himself, he never would have believed that someone so refined and dignified could be doing something so wicked.

Wen Sinian’s gaze lifted, his eyes half-lidded in satisfaction as he admired Xu Yan’s flushed face, his misty, tearful eyes, the way he was utterly undone by desire.

Wen Sinian gave him one last kiss before standing up, pulling Xu Yan into his arms.

Xu Yan was on the verge of collapse. If not for Wen Sinian’s support, he would have melted into a puddle on the rug.

Wen Sinian took the camera from his hand and smoothed the skirt back into place, leaving no trace of what had just happened.

Then, he gently turned Xu Yan’s face toward the full-length mirror, making him look at their reflections together.

In the mirror, one was in a crisp suit, the other in a pristine wedding dress, like a couple about to exchange vows all over again, perfectly matched.

Xu Yan, dazed, watched as Wen Sinian raised the camera and took a photo.

He knew his face must be bright red, so he tried to turn away.

Wen Sinian found this adorable and rubbed his head affectionately.

    “Why hide?”

Xu Yan leaned weakly against him. “Don’t take pictures of my face…”

Wen Sinian set the camera aside, cupped his face, and gazed at him deeply. “You’re beautiful, baby.”

He kissed his lips softly. “So beautiful.”

Xu Yan tasted something unfamiliar and felt his ears burn with humiliation. He wished he could vanish on the spot.

“You were just bullying me,” he accused. “You’re terrible.”

Wen Sinian chuckled. “Didn’t you enjoy it?”

Xu Yan’s legs were still cramping, and he hadn’t recovered. “You… you’re not allowed to ask.”

Wen Sinian rubbed his trembling back. “The carpet’s wet. The housekeeper will think someone spilled water when she comes to clean.”

“Don’t say that…” Xu Yan covered Wen Sinian’s mouth with both hands, looking up at him with tearful eyes. “How can you be so bad…”

Wen Sinian held his hands and kissed his fingers, his gaze darkening. “Don’t tempt me, and I won’t be this bad.”

Xu Yan breathed softly. “When did I tempt you?”

Wen Sinian: “You are right now.”

    Xu Yan: “…”

Wen Sinian always had an excuse.

“Weren’t you supposed to come back next week?”

Wen Sinian’s large hand pressed against the soft fabric of the dress. “You dressed like this… to surprise me?”

Xu Yan nodded. “There’s more downstairs. Come see.”

He tried to lead Wen Sinian downstairs, but his legs were too weak. He reached out for Wen Sinian to carry him.

Wen Sinian obliged, lifting him into his arms, but instead of leaving the room, he laid Xu Yan gently on the bed and picked up the veil, placing it over his head.

Xu Yan looked at him through the thin veil, his eyes shimmering like a priceless work of art, pure and exquisite.

But Wen Sinian had already tasted the intoxicating sweetness hidden beneath the fabric.

He took the small pink box from Xu Yan’s bag, opening it as he returned to the bed.

    Xu Yan stiffened.

Wen Sinian’s memory was too good. He was here to collect on the promise Xu Yan had made earlier, the condition for his patience.

Inside the box wasn’t something frightening. Instead, it was a string of round, lustrous pearls, like dewdrops glistening in the morning light. Strung together in a long line, each bead was full and smooth, rolling between Wen Sinian’s long fingers.

Wen Sinian leaned in. “Baby, each one was chosen just for you. Do you like them?”

Xu Yan stared at the pearls in Wen Sinian’s hand. Though they shimmered beautifully, they sent a chill down his spine.

These pearls weren’t meant for his neck.

“Eighteen pearls, all for you, okay?”

Xu Yan was horrified. He clutched the wedding dress, his pale skin practically melting into the bedsheets as he shook his head. “I… I don’t want them…”

    “Don’t like them?”

Wen Sinian draped the pearls against Xu Yan’s skin. The simple elegance of the dress suddenly took on an air of opulence, his fair skin nearly blending with the pearls’ luster.

Wen Sinian’s eyes darkened, his breathing growing heavy as he lowered his head in devotion,

Like the most pious worshipper, gently kissing his most sacred belief.

“Why don’t you like them?” Wen Sinian murmured. “They suit you perfectly.”

Without waiting for an answer, he offered up the precious string of pearls with both hands.

    ***

The wedding dress’s massive train could be removed, revealing a silk satin slip underneath, a detail Xu Yan only discovered now.

Wen Sinian helped him out of the cumbersome dress and carried him downstairs.

Each step down the staircase was agony for Xu Yan, every movement unbearable.

By the time Wen Sinian settled him on the sofa, Xu Yan’s lashes fluttered weakly, and he could only lean against him, his face turned away.

Feeling the constant tremors in his arms, Wen Sinian picked up the red wine Xu Yan had prepared for their celebration. He took a large sip, then lifted Xu Yan’s chin and fed it to him.

The wine had been meant for them to share, but Xu Yan was in too much discomfort to enjoy it. His exposed leg curled up, his bare foot resting uneasily on Wen Sinian’s knee.

Wen Sinian gave his thigh a light pat. “Not behaving?”

Xu Yan was utterly miserable, his eyes glistening with unshed tears. He clutched at Wen Sinian’s shirt, taking small, shuddering breaths. The only thing left on him was the smooth satin slip, clinging to his skin.

“It hurts…” he whimpered softly, trying to elicit sympathy with his tearful, pitiful gaze. “My stomach… it doesn’t feel right.”

Before he could finish, a large hand suddenly pressed against his abdomen.

Xu Yan nearly gasped for air.

He was supposed to be the revered deity, so why was his devotee the one defiling him without restraint?

“How does it not feel right? Be specific,” Wen Sinian said.

Xu Yan bit his lip. How was he supposed to explain? It just hurt.

Wen Sinian was clearly being deliberately wicked, his favorite pastime was tormenting him.

Seeing Xu Yan stay silent, Wen Sinian feigned understanding. “Can’t say it?”

He leaned in and whispered in Xu Yan’s ear, “But you do like it, don’t you, baby? It’s okay if you can’t admit it. I already know.”

Xu Yan’s eyes widened, his lips pouting as tears threatened to spill.

Wen Sinian finally took mercy on him.

He dropped a pearl into the red wine, then took it into his mouth, savoring the sweet, slippery texture mixed with the rich flavor of the wine. It was intoxicating, addictive.

Xu Yan regretted every bit of his “surprise.” The gift he had prepared for Wen Sinian went unused, while he ended up being the gift, enjoyed over and over again until he lost count.

He couldn’t even crawl off the sofa. The torment lasted from dusk till dawn, and then into the next morning.

The pearl string had long since snapped, the beads scattered across the floor, forgotten…

    ***

Xu Yan woke the next morning to an unfamiliar, bloated sensation. He was still locked tightly in Wen Sinian’s arms, as if he had been held like this all night.

He pushed weakly at Wen Sinian, but the grip only tightened.

With only three days off, every second had to count.

Their anniversary had passed in a blur. All Xu Yan could clearly remember was the wedding dress and the string of pearls.

He’d probably never forget them for the rest of his life.

A month later, the housekeeper found a large, lustrous pearl under the sofa. It must have been nourished by the finest oyster flesh, its surface glowed with a soft, dewy sheen, clearly valuable.

The housekeeper didn’t dare touch it and called Xu Yan over, asking if it was from a pearl necklace Wen Sinian had bought him, since only this one bead had been found.

Xu Yan froze, then quickly picked it up. It was the largest, most radiant pearl, the one he remembered most vividly. Blushing, he tucked it into his pocket without explaining and hurried upstairs.

The study door was ajar. Without knocking, Xu Yan pushed it open and barged in.

“It’s all your fault for breaking the string! I just found the biggest one, it was under the- “

He cut himself off, stunned to see Zheng Yao and others inside.

They hadn’t been to the house in a while. Normally, Wen Sinian didn’t bring work home, but since Xu Yan was between projects, Wen Sinian had adjusted his schedule to match, taking time off to stay home with him.

Xu Yan had woken up late and had no idea when the others had arrived.

Zheng Yao reacted first, quickly ushering everyone out without a word.

Xu Yan stood there, guiltily hiding the pearl in his hand as he waved goodbye.

After the door closed, Wen Sinian walked over and embraced him. Seeing the pearl in Xu Yan’s hand, he smiled. “Where did you find it?”

Xu Yan blinked. “Under the sofa. The housekeeper found it while cleaning… Why didn’t you tell me we had guests? Did they hear what I just said? They won’t… misinterpret anything, right?”

Wen Sinian pulled him onto the office chair, taking his hand and rolling the pearl between his fingers. “No, they won’t. It was just a pearl necklace to begin with. The string wasn’t very sturdy, it’s normal for it to break.”

Xu Yan squirmed in his arms. “You knew it was a necklace, so why did you- necklaces are supposed to be worn around the neck, not just placed anywhere!”

Wen Sinian lifted his hand and kissed his fingertips. “Where was it placed improperly?”

Xu Yan faltered, turning to look at him. Seeing the amused glint in Wen Sinian’s eyes, he knew he was being teased again.

“I’m not talking to you! Here, take your pearl back.”

He placed the pearl on the desk and tried to leave, but his wrist was caught, and he was pulled back into Wen Sinian’s warm embrace.

Wen Sinian didn’t mind his little tantrums, in fact, he enjoyed indulging and pampering him.

He placed the pearl back in Xu Yan’s palm, toying with it through his fingers. “I said it suits you. It’s all yours. Don’t you want it?”

Xu Yan hesitated, then asked, “How much did it cost?”

Wen Sinian named a price. Xu Yan’s eyes widened, and he immediately cupped the pearl protectively with both hands.

    “That expensive?”

    Wen Sinian clarified, “Each.”

    “!”

Xu Yan quickly stuffed the pearl back into his pocket and patted it. “I’ll keep it safe. You’d just lose it again.”

“Fine.” Wen Sinian chuckled. “Everything that’s mine is yours.”

Xu Yan’s mood improved instantly. He pulled the pearl out to admire it again, then wrapped her arms around Wen Sinian’s neck and kissed him, smiling. “Thank you, husband.”

Wen Sinian kissed him back, then had him express his gratitude in other ways.

    ***

Later, Wen Sinian had the pearl necklace repaired, this time with a much sturdier cord to ensure it could withstand… vigorous use.

And so, Xu Yan was coaxed and tricked into wearing it a few more times.

In the second before he lost consciousness, he cursed fiercely inside:

    ‘This damn scoundrel!’
