Read And Be Lazy
    Chapter Index

Xu Yan was about to go upstairs to sleep; he still had school early the next morning.

“By the way, you gave me a card earlier, but I forgot to bring it,” Xu Yan said. “Why don’t you come upstairs with me to get it?”

    Wen Sinian responded, “Okay.”

Xu Yan limped ahead, and Wen Sinian silently followed behind him. Several times, he wanted to just carry him upstairs but thought about making him listen and suppressed the idea.

Xu Yan climbed a couple of steps up the staircase, and the wound on his knee hurt from the friction. He leaned on the railing, breathing shallowly, and turned his head to look at the broad-shouldered, long-legged bodyguard behind him.

He stretched out a hand, “Help me.”

Wen Sinian’s gaze fell on his fair hand, which looked small and soft. He didn’t know what he was thinking and quietly paused for a moment.

Xu Yan was getting impatient and waved his hand to urge him, “What are you looking at? Hurry up and help me upstairs. My leg hurts.”

Wen Sinian then extended his arm to him, letting him hold onto it for support.

Xu Yan placed his hand on his forearm and took a couple of steps, still complaining about the pain from the friction. He moved slowly and reluctantly.

Wen Sinian kept watching him, as if he sighed softly, then bent down in front of him, scooped him up by the legs, and effortlessly carried him up the stairs in large strides.

Xu Yan was startled but didn’t dare to call out. He covered his own mouth and let Wen Sinian carry him upstairs.

“Which room?” a soft voice asked from above.

Xu Yan was held in a tight, strong embrace and could feel his cheeks warming.

He hadn’t been carried like this since he was a child.

He quickly pointed in a direction, and Wen Sinian carried him swiftly to the door of the room.

“Okay,” Xu Yan gently struggled free, “Put me down.”

Wen Sinian set him down, and he twisted open the milky white door in front of him, instructing at the same time, “You wait here at the door. Don’t come in.”

    “Okay.”

The door opened a crack, and Xu Yan slipped inside like a liquid cat through the gap.

The hallway was pitch black, and Wen Sinian stood in the shadows, intently watching the small patch of warm, yellow light seeping through the crack.

He slowly extended his hand, as if wanting to grasp that warmth, and consequently pushed open the door in front of him.

Inside, only the wall lamp was on, not dazzling, but enough to clearly see the room’s furnishings.

It was a very cute and cozy setup. The most eye-catching was the spacious, soft double bed, covered with a thick white fur blanket, much larger than the bodyguard’s room downstairs.

Next to it was a long row of wardrobes, and a large floor-length mirror with a dress hanging in front of it.

Wen Sinian’s gaze suddenly locked tightly.

    It was pink.

    A dress.

A figure suddenly emerged from somewhere, rushing to the door and quickly closing the slightly open door, leaving only a crack.

The movement of closing the door stirred up a fragrant breeze inside the room, enveloping Wen Sinian’s face.

He deeply inhaled the sweet fragrance, which was exactly the same as the scent emanating from the young master’s body.

Xu Yan held the card in his hand, showing only half of his face inside the room, looking a bit angry, “Didn’t I tell you not to come in? Who allowed you to peek?”

Wen Sinian, to prevent him from closing the door, gently pressed his hand against it, lowering his brows and eyes, “I didn’t look.”

Xu Yan didn’t believe him, “You opened it, and you were just looking inside. What did you see?”

Wen Sinian, “I didn’t see anything of yours.”

Xu Yan bit his lip. The dress he had hung in front of the mirror hadn’t been put away yet. It would be terrible if this stinky bodyguard saw it.

“You dare to lie to me. I’ll get angry, and I won’t return this thing to you,” Xu Yan waved the card in his hand.

Wen Sinian seemed indifferent, “Then it’s yours.”

Xu Yan was surprised, “Mine? What is this?”

Wen Sinian took the card from his hand and stuffed it back into his pajama pocket, gently patting it, “Something very valuable.”

Hearing it was valuable, Xu Yan quickly covered his pocket.

Although his family conditions were quite good, the money was his father’s. Strictly speaking, it had nothing to do with him personally. Moreover, after his father remarried, he had other children, and it was unclear how much would be left for him in the future.

“Okay, then I’ll keep it for you. After all, you are now my person, and your things are my things,” Xu Yan lifted his chin, “If you behave well in the future and make me happy, I’ll consider whether to return it to you or not.”

This was an unreasonable statement, but someone was willing to indulge him.

    Wen Sinian smiled faintly, “Okay.”

    ***

Officially becoming the young master’s bodyguard, he provided close protection every day, escorting the young master to and from school. Apart from being at school and at home, he never left the young master’s side.

Xu Yan liked to laze in bed. In the mornings, he usually needed the housekeeper or butler to knock on his door to wake him up. He took his time washing up and eating breakfast, and every morning, he basically arrived at school just as the bell rang.

After school, however, he was very proactive, usually being among the first to leave the school. Then, he could be the first to see Wen Sinian’s face at the school gate.

Wen Sinian, dressed in a black suit, was tall and handsome. Standing in the crowd, he was immediately noticeable, hard to ignore. When Xu Yan came out, Wen Sinian would come forward, take his school bag, and put it in his own hand, then open the car door for him, help him into the car, and then get into the driver’s seat to drive away.

A few times, Xu Yan walked out of the school gate with his classmates, who saw Wen Sinian picking him up and misunderstood their relationship. Shen Nanli, who was closest to Xu Yan, was also very outspoken, “Is this guy really your bodyguard? Why doesn’t he seem like one? My family also has bodyguards, all built like oxen, but they look quite rough. Why can your dad find such a good-looking one for you?”

Xu Yan raised his chin slightly. This was someone he had personally picked up, and he didn’t know why he felt a little proud, “I found him, not my dad. Am I amazing?”

Beside them, Shang Jia also came over to join in the fun, “Oh, come on. Trust my intuition. His background is definitely not simple. Aren’t you being set up by someone?”

Xu Yan waved his hand, “How is that possible? Being a bodyguard is very hard. What could he possibly want from me?”

Shang Jia looked him up and down, “He wants your body.”

Xu Yan quickly covered her mouth, “Don’t talk nonsense here. He and I have a purely master-servant relationship.”

Shang Jia saw the bodyguard not far away walking toward them, touching her chin thoughtfully, “The master-servant relationship is correct, but whether it’s pure or not is unknown.”

Xu Yan was speechless, “You’re the one with the dirty mind…”

As he spoke, he felt a lightness behind him, and his school bag had been taken away by someone.

A voice from above, deep and slow, said, “It’s time to go home.”

Xu Yan suddenly turned his head, not knowing when the person behind him had gotten so close, even slightly leaning toward him. His forehead almost brushed against Wen Sinian’s lips.

The fair skin near his ear turned red from the rub, and Xu Yan pushed the person in front of him away, stammering, “You… why are you rushing me? I know I have to go home. I’m leaving now.”

He said goodbye to Shang Jia and Shen Nanli, turned, and walked toward the car, complaining as he went about the person behind him, “Next time, just speak if you have something to say. Don’t get so close to me again.”

Wen Sinian opened the passenger door for him, “Okay.”

Xu Yan deliberately didn’t get in the front and sat in the back seat instead.

Wen Sinian squeezed the door handle and didn’t say much more.

The young master had a bad temper, and one had to smooth things over with him, or he would easily get angry.

He figured this out on the very first day.

Perhaps because he had been spoiled by his grandmother since he was little, Xu Yan had many little quirks, but he didn’t take them out on others. He would just sulk alone in his room.

When he sulked too much, his mood would turn sour, and Xu Yan found his own way to vent his emotions—sneaking around to avoid people.

But now it was better. With Wen Sinian around, it was like having a giant punching bag.

Since Wen Sinian was always around him, he had an outlet for his little quirks.

Any dissatisfaction could be directed at Wen Sinian, who wouldn’t dare to resist.

Another weekend arrived. Shang Jia had invited a tutor to help with their studies and also invited Xu Yan and Shen Nanli to join.

Xu Yan, who had been struggling with his studies, asked Wen Sinian to take him there.

Unexpectedly, when they arrived at Shang Jia’s house, Wen Sinian, citing the unfamiliar environment and the need to keep Xu Yan within his sight, followed them into the study.

The tutor was teaching at the small blackboard, and the three obedient students were listening attentively. Behind them, on the sofa, sat a bodyguard watching.

Although the bodyguard didn’t look fierce or evil, his aura was too strong to ignore. The tutor felt immense pressure and, after teaching for a short while, claimed to feel unwell. He said he would make up the lesson next time and left the three students to do some problems while he slipped away.

The three didn’t notice anything unusual and diligently worked on their problems.

With only a month left until the college entrance exam, Xu Yan had mostly stopped doing school homework. Instead, he focused on his weak areas. It wasn’t that he deliberately refused to get up in the morning; he stayed up late every night studying in his room, so naturally, he couldn’t wake up early.

He rarely encountered problems he couldn’t solve in a set of papers unless they were beyond the syllabus. Today’s set was quite difficult, and after studying it for a while, he still had questions he couldn’t solve, even after discussing them with the other two.

Just as he was frowning in frustration, footsteps approached the desk, and a hand suddenly took the pen from his hand.

A few lines were drawn on the scratch paper, and a few simple steps were written, solving the problem.

Xu Yan stared at it for a while, suddenly realizing, and immediately looked up at Wen Sinian standing in front of him, his eyes full of surprise.

“How do you know how to solve it?”

Wen Sinian sat beside him and took his test paper, flipping through it. “Are there any other problems you don’t understand?”

Xu Yan hurriedly said, “Yes, yes, this one.”

Wen Sinian glanced at it and quickly wrote out the solution steps for him, softly asking, “Do you understand it like this?”

Xu Yan frowned and slowly shook his head, “I haven’t seen this formula.”

Wen Sinian’s voice was very low, “Advanced mathematics is studied in university, of course, there are other solutions. You can use the coordinate system now…”

For one problem, Wen Sinian explained three different methods to Xu Yan, elaborating on each one in depth. Shang Jia and Shen Nanli also came over to listen.

Shang Jia sighed, “I feel like you explain it better than the teacher. The teacher talked for half a day, and I didn’t understand, but you just said a few words, and I got it.”

Shen Nanli, “Me too. And there are fewer steps. Why don’t you teach us? After all, you are Xu Yan’s bodyguard and one of us. Xu Yan, what do you think of this suggestion?”

Xu Yan watched as the other two stood on either side of Wen Sinian, their eyes full of thirst for knowledge. But he himself had been pushed aside, even though Wen Sinian had initially come to explain the problems to him.

Xu Yan didn’t know why, but a nameless feeling surged in his heart.

It was a wicked, selfish, and even somewhat dark possessiveness lurking within.

He had long considered Wen Sinian as his exclusive possession. Since he was his exclusive possession, how could others look at him?

Shang Jia and Shen Nanli were pulling Wen Sinian to ask about other problems, and Wen Sinian, surprisingly, didn’t refuse and patiently explained each problem to them.

Did this person know who his master was? Would he listen to anyone?

    This was really annoying.

Xu Yan stood up abruptly, angrily stuffing all the test papers into his bag.

Shang Jia was stunned, “What’s wrong, Xu Yan? Do you understand all the questions?”

    Xu Yan stiffly replied, “Mmm.”

Shen Nanli also said, “Then wait for us a bit. I still have several questions I don’t understand. Let Wen-Ge explain them to me.”

Xu Yan’s face stiffened, “What did you call him?”

Shen Nanli didn’t think there was anything wrong with it. He and Xu Yan could even share an ice cream. It shouldn’t be a problem to have Xu Yan’s bodyguard explain a couple of questions to him.

“Wen-Ge, what’s wrong? Isn’t he older than us? Shouldn’t we politely call him Gege?” Shen Nanli was confused and had never seen Xu Yan with this expression. “Well, if you think it’s inappropriate, then I won’t call him that.”

Xu Yan looked at Wen Sinian, who was still sitting in the chair, one hand lazily propping up his chin. The pen in his hand was doodling something on the paper, but his eyes slowly lifted, looking at him with a slight curve at the corner of his lips.

He seemed to be in a very good mood.

Xu Yan’s anger came from nowhere.

He was angry at Wen Sinian and angry at himself.

He didn’t know when he had become so petty. Shang Jia and Shen Nanli were his best friends, so why couldn’t he stand seeing Wen Sinian so close to them?

He turned with his bag, “I just remembered I have something to do at home. I need to leave early. I’m going.”

After saying that, he ran out of the room by himself.

Wen Sinian also said a word of apology to the other two, “Sorry.”

Then he quickly stood up and followed.

Shen Nanli was confused and looked at Shang Jia, “What’s going on?”

Shang Jia instantly understood and smirked, “Not a simple situation.”

Xu Yan had already sat in the car by himself. Wen Sinian drove him back, frequently looking in the rearview mirror. He saw that pretty little face drooping all the way, not saying a word.

Finally, he parked the car in the underground garage. Xu Yan sat without moving, waiting for Wen Sinian to open the door for him.

Wen Sinian looked at him and suddenly asked, “You didn’t say a word the whole way. Are you feeling unwell?”

Xu Yan looked at him from the mirror, meeting a pair of smiling eyes, and got even angrier.

He huffed and turned his face away, ignoring him.

Wen Sinian wasn’t annoyed either. He got out of the driver’s seat, but instead of opening the door for him, he opened the other side and sat in.

Xu Yan frowned and was about to speak when the person in front of him, without any warning, suddenly leaned toward him.

Xu Yan was suddenly overwhelmed by the strong aura invading him, his eyes wide, and he stupidly watched the hands reaching toward him, not knowing how to dodge. A large hand forcefully pressed against his lower back, pulling him forward with a tug, and his body softly leaned against it.

Wen Sinian could easily subdue him with one hand. Before he could react, the other hand had already reached out to touch his cheek.

The touch was soft, smooth, and tender, exactly as he had imagined.

But he could only quickly and casually slide his fingertips over it, finally extending his hand to the back of his forehead to check his temperature.

“No fever,” the hot breath was close, eagerly wanting to dive into his collar, “Does anything hurt?”

Xu Yan almost collapsed into Wen Sinian’s arms, his eyes seeming to hold moisture as he blinked blankly. He belatedly realized the predicament he was in, and a blush quickly spread, climbing up to his neck.

His waist was held, and his face was touched.

The young master suddenly realized he was the master.

He raised his hand in shame and anger, slapping the face of the person in front of him.

Wen Sinian was slightly turned by the force of the slap, and the young master didn’t hold back. A “slap” echoed in the car.

A faint red mark quickly appeared on his cheek, and the skin on that side felt hot, but that pain was negligible. Instead, it was the breeze brought by the motion of her hand swinging over.

It reminded him of the scent he had smelled at the door of her room, sweet and easily arousing the desire to taste.

Wen Sinian touched his slapped cheek, reacting half a beat slower, as if savoring something, the corner of his lips slightly lifting uncontrollably.

Xu Yan had hit someone for the first time and was quite panicked inside. The person he hit was actually smiling at him.

The hand around his waist didn’t withdraw either. Instead, it tightened its five fingers, pinching his waist through his clothes.

Xu Yan was almost scared out of his wits, pushing hard against his chest with both hands, his commanding tone trembling slightly, “You, hurry up, let go of me… what are you doing…”

Wen Sinian took his hand and lifted it, rubbing it in his palm.

“The palm of your hand is red, young master,” the large hand could completely envelop that small, fair hand, intimately caressing it from the inside out. “It looks so pitiful.”

He brought it close to his lips, spraying hot breath on it.

Wen Sinian lowered his head in front of him, his dark eyes locking onto him.

“Can I help you lick it?”
