Read And Be Lazy
    Chapter Index

    “Have they finished talking?”

“They have, but…” Uncle Zhuang looked troubled.

Xu Yan: “What’s wrong? Did something happen?”

Uncle Zhuang stammered, “Well… that person is staying at the Xu residence for now.”

Xu Yan’s eyes lit up, “Did Dad let him stay?”

“Yes,” Uncle Zhuang said, “Mr. Xu probably thinks he’s quite capable. Even though he was injured, he was still so strong and could fight well. His physical condition is excellent.”

Xu Yan thought of the man’s physique he had seen up close on the stairs—broad shoulders and narrow waist, with bulging veins crawling up his exposed forearms, full of strength.

    He nodded, “That’s true…”

Uncle Zhuang smiled, “Mr. Xu has asked him to stay as your bodyguard.”

Xu Yan didn’t expect that his momentary kindness in rescuing someone would end up causing trouble for himself.

That night, he lay in bed tossing and turning, unable to sleep. Finally, he put on his coat and tiptoed downstairs.

The butler and the housekeeper lived in the side room on the first floor, and the new bodyguard also lived there.

Xu Yan, afraid of waking the others, didn’t knock on the door. Instead, he turned the doorknob directly, not expecting it to open right away.

Delighted, he quietly slipped inside and carefully closed the door, locking it.

The room was unlit, and he groped around for a long time without finding the switch. He could only strain his eyes in the darkness and softly called out into the void, “Are you here? It’s me.”

    There was no response.

It was so late; was he not in the room?

Xu Yan continued to feel his way forward in the dark. His shin hit something with a “thud,” hurting so much that he grimaced, clutching his leg and squatting in place. The spot he had bumped into hurt terribly, and he didn’t even dare to touch it with his hand.

Just as he was squatting on the floor, feeling wronged and not wanting to look for the person anymore, intending to crawl back bit by bit with his hands and feet, a door in front of him was suddenly pushed open from the inside.

Warm yellow light instantly spilled out from the bathroom, filling the dark room.

In front of him, a small figure was squatting, hugging its knees in a ball. After hearing the sound, it lifted its face, and the pretty little face was also illuminated by the light. Its eyes were moist and red, looking very pitiful. Its fair cheeks were probably enveloped by the mist coming from the bathroom, and it blinked its eyes, suddenly inhaling a large mouthful of warm, damp air.

Xu Yan was stunned, looking at the man who was bare-chested, wearing only a loose bath towel. His mouth was slightly open, clearly shocked by the man’s well-defined, powerful muscles and several intersecting scars on his body. He could only stare blankly, momentarily forgetting to react.

The tall, dark figure stepped forward half a step, easily enveloping the slender figure on the floor within his grasp.

    “What’s wrong with your leg?”

The man noticed his abnormality and half-crouched in front of him, the wet sheen of water sliding down his muscular contours into the white bath towel.

Xu Yan widened his eyes and silently swallowed.

    “I accidentally… bumped into it.”

There was a cabinet nearby with a drawer pulled out, its sharp corner precisely aimed at the young master’s leg.

    “Let me see.”

Xu Yan didn’t let go of his leg, but a hand reached out, gently grasping his wrist and pulling it outward.

His wrist was so slender, the thin white skin tightly wrapped around the bone. He wondered if applying a bit of force would leave a mark.

Indeed, there was a small red patch on his fair, delicate calf, almost breaking the skin. It was a serious bump.

    “Does it still hurt?”

    Xu Yan admitted, “A little.”

The hand pressed near the wound, “Does anywhere else hurt?”

Xu Yan shook his head, “No.”

“It’s okay, just apply some medicine.”

The bodyguard stood up, took the medicine the doctor had prescribed for him from the table, found the one for external injuries, and said to the person behind him, “Sit on the bed.”

Xu Yan immediately became alert, “Ah…”

As if knowing what he was thinking, a soft laugh came from the darkness.

“Your position is closer to the bed, or you can sit on the sofa.”

Sitting on someone else’s bed was really inappropriate. Xu Yan thought that although he had taken a shower and was wearing pajamas, and this was his home, he still slowly stood up, hopping on one leg, and sat crookedly on the sofa.

The dark figure turned on the light, and the room suddenly brightened.

Xu Yan was dazzled and squinted, taking a moment before opening his eyes again. He saw someone sitting beside him, who had put on a shirt, holding ointment and a cotton swab, gently and slowly applying medicine to his wound.

He was so gentle that Xu Yan hadn’t even felt it when his eyes were closed. There was just a slight itch on his calf.

He couldn’t move while the medicine was being applied. Xu Yan’s eyes darted around, looking at the floor one moment and stealing glances at the bodyguard in front of him the next.

When he rescued him, his face was covered in blood, making it hard to see clearly. Now that it was cleaned, his handsome eyebrows and noble nose bridge were revealed. His lips were thin, and just looking at his face made him seem very dignified. Combined with his physique and demeanor, he didn’t seem like an ordinary bodyguard.

He mustn’t forget the purpose of his visit tonight.

“What’s your name?” Xu Yan suddenly asked.

    “Wen Sinian.”

“You’re surnamed Wen?” Xu Yan reacted quickly, “Then are you related to the Wen family?”

He had heard his father mention the Wen family, who were financially powerful and deeply rooted, leaving a deep impression.

Wen Sinian raised his eyes and quietly looked at him for a while before saying, “No.”

Xu Yan felt he had asked a stupid question. If he were from the Wen family, how could he come to be his bodyguard?

“Then why were you injured? Why were you lying at the gate of our school?”

Wen Sinian had already applied the ointment to him and tore open a band-aid, gently placing it on his wound.

    “Encountered an enemy, an accident.”

Xu Yan was surprised, “You have enemies?”

Wen Sinian’s expression didn’t change, “Before, when I worked as a bodyguard for someone, I had conflicts with people. Such things happen often. Just like your father has rivals in the business world, it’s essentially the same.”

This was true. After all, Xu Yan himself had almost been kidnapped, so he could understand it very well.

“Okay, then what did you say to my dad? Why did he agree to let you stay as my bodyguard?”

Wen Sinian placed his calf flat and very naturally helped him adjust his pant leg, as if he had done it countless times before.

“You should ask Mr. Xu about that.”

Xu Yan said, “But his flight has already left tonight. How can I ask him? Just tell me.”

Wen Sinian, “I don’t know either.”

Xu Yan didn’t believe him at all. He kicked Wen Sinian’s thigh, “You’re lying to me. You talked for so long, how could you not know? You just don’t want to tell me.”

He kicked a dangerous spot. Wen Sinian grabbed him with one hand, his knuckles and prominent veins gripping the fair ankle, just lowering his eyes to look. Wen Sinian rolled his Adam’s apple slightly.

“Don’t move around, or the wound will hurt.”

Xu Yan angrily pulled his ankle away, but unexpectedly, he couldn’t pull it out at all. His ankle was gripped so tightly it hurt.

    “Let go of me.”

    The hand held him firmly.

Xu Yan was a bit annoyed, “Are you my bodyguard?”

Wen Sinian’s eyes slightly darkened, and he suddenly smiled, “Yes.”

Xu Yan gave orders imperiously, “Then you have to listen to me. Don’t smile.”

Wen Sinian suppressed his smile and then heard the young master order again, “Now let go of me, or I’ll fire you and leave you with nowhere to go.”

Although it was a threat, it was delivered right to his doorstep. He leaned his body softly back into the sofa, his cheeks red, his ankle held by someone. With just a light lift, he might be easily overpowered with his legs raised.

Young master, why are you so silly?

Wen Sinian let go of his hand.

Xu Yan stood up from the sofa, much taller than the seated person. He looked down at him and said, “Considering that you’re still somewhat obedient, I won’t hold it against you this time. But you must promise to always listen to me in the future, or I’ll still fire you. No matter what my dad told you, don’t listen to him. I’m the one you work for, and you have to listen to me. And don’t forget, I’m the one who saved you. I’m practically your savior. Shouldn’t you repay me?”

Wen Sinian leaned back on the sofa, his arms lazily draped on either side. He tilted his head slightly and, during the pauses in Xu Yan’s speech, had already scanned him from head to toe and back again with his gaze, finally settling on his slightly parted lips.

Xu Yan saw that he wasn’t speaking and nudged his calf with his foot, “Did you hear what I said?”

Wen Sinian stared at the soft red that flashed in his mouth, licked his lips, and said, “I heard.”

Xu Yan pressed, “Then say it again.”

Wen Sinian, “I’ll listen to you in the future.”

Xu Yan was very satisfied, “And?”

Wen Sinian suddenly sat up straight, his hot breath leaning toward him, almost enclosing him entirely within his territory. But in front of him, he tilted his head back, adopting a submissive posture, and said in a low voice—

    “And,

    You are my person.”
