Read And Be Lazy
    Chapter Index

After a week of four exams, Xu Yan felt his vitality was drained.

Living with Wen Sinian had many advantages, the most important being that he could help with his homework.

Xu Yan had already finished the main part of his course project and left the difficult and tedious parts to Wen Sinian, who solved them without a word—on the condition that he would do it over the weekend, and it had to be the real deal.

Xu Yan tried to reason with him: he still had five exams next week, and those were important, so he needed the weekend to study.

But considering that Wen Sinian had taken care of both course projects for him, he compromised a little: Friday night was okay, but not too late, or he wouldn’t be able to get up Saturday morning.

Wen Sinian agreed, but Xu Yan didn’t expect that as soon as he finished his exam on Friday afternoon at five o’clock, Wen Sinian would pick him up from school and take him straight to the black door of the master bedroom in the villa.

In the evening, he was fed a little something in bed, then they made a racket until after midnight before sleeping.

On Saturday morning, Xu Yan got up with his eyes still swollen from crying the night before.

Wen Sinian took him to the library and stayed at school to keep him company.

Xu Yan wouldn’t let him sit next to him—it was too conspicuous—so Wen Sinian sat two rows behind, where he could still see Xu Yan’s studious back.

In the evening, Xu Yan went to the hospital to visit his grandmother and asked Wen Sinian to go up with him.

His grandmother had met Wen Sinian before and had a good impression of him.

Seeing them arrive together again, his grandmother smiled happily and had them sit on either side of the hospital bed. She instructed Xu Yan, “Good boy, peel an apple for your grandmother.”

At home, it was always Wen Sinian who took care of him, but in front of his grandmother, he had to play the host. Xu Yan obediently washed an apple and picked up a fruit knife to peel it.

“Good boy, why do you seem to have gained a little weight recently?”

Xu Yan didn’t look up. “Have I?”

The nanny at Wen Sinian’s house cooked much better than the cafeteria, and he often ate too much without realizing it. Recently, he had even been eating late-night snacks, four meals a day, so he might have gained a little weight.

He had just peeled a small piece of the apple when Wen Sinian took a wet wipe to clean his hands and took the apple from him.

“He has gained a little.” Wen Sinian stated.

In just a short time, Xu Yan had been taken care of so well that his complexion was rosy and his appetite had increased. He no longer ate like a cat.

During exam week, many people were exhausted and looked pale, but Xu Yan stood out in the library, glowing.

Given a little more time, he was confident he could take even better care of Xu Yan.

His grandmother was obviously very satisfied and asked, “Good boy, when do you start winter break?”

Xu Yan: “One more week and the exams will be over. After that, I can leave early.”

Wen Sinian, having finished peeling the apple, handed it back to Xu Yan and asked, “Where to?”

“For winter break, of course I’ll go back to my hometown to celebrate the New Year.”

Wen Sinian asked, “Can’t you stay in Beishi for the New Year?”

Xu Yan thought for a moment and took a bite of the apple. “I guess so. What about you, Grandma?”

The old lady looked at the two of them, who acted so naturally, and seemed a little hesitant. “It’s possible, but… Good boy, your father called me today. He wants you to spend the New Year with him this year.”

Xu Yan immediately rejected the idea. “I don’t want to go. I’ll stay with you, Grandma.”

His father had remarried years ago, and his half-sibling was only two years younger than him. They hadn’t been in touch for many years, and he wasn’t close to that family. It wasn’t his home.

“All right, I’ll call him back and tell him,” his grandmother said with a smile. “Then we can stay in Beishi for the New Year.”

Xu Yan couldn’t hide his joy and secretly glanced at Wen Sinian, who was looking at him gently.

That was great. This year, they could spend the most important festival together.

After leaving the hospital, Xu Yan asked Wen Sinian in the car, “You never told me about Grandma’s hospital bills. You’ve been covering them all this time. How much is it in total? I’ll pay you back.”

    Wen Sinian said, “Not much.”

Xu Yan looked serious. “How much is not much? You have to tell me the truth. Don’t worry, I have money.”

Even though his money was originally from Wen Sinian.

But no matter, once it was his, it was his. He would use Wen Sinian’s money to pay Wen Sinian back.

At a red light, the car came to a slow stop.

Wen Sinian took his hand and looked at him. “Baby, everything I’ve done for you is just to make you happy. You don’t need to pay me back.”

Then he pinched his leg. “Besides, you’ve already paid me back.”

Xu Yan got through the final exam week smoothly — five subjects in five consecutive days — and when they came out of the last exam room, his classmates were shouting with excitement.

At last, the happy winter break had arrived.

That morning, after finishing the last exam around ten o’clock, Wen Sinian was still out attending a meeting, so Xu Yan went out with Shang Jia and Shen Nanli to shop and eat, taking the chance to really relax.

Halfway through their meal, Wen Sinian called. He was close by, so he drove over to pick up Xu Yan and even dropped Shang Jia and Shen Nanli off on the way.

Instead of returning to the villa, Wen Sinian still had some urgent work to handle, so he brought Xu Yan straight to the AG studio.

Everyone in the studio was busy, and Lin Xingxian — whom they hadn’t seen in a long time — was also there.

Wen Sinian called everyone in the studio to a meeting, so Xu Yan went upstairs with Lin Xingxian. Although Wen Sinian had told him to move his art room out, Xu Yan had stubbornly refused and still occupied an office on the second floor.

“You two have gone public?” Lin Xingxian asked.

    “Not yet.”

Lin Xingxian raised a brow. “Didn’t you go on a trip to Harbor City? And the people downstairs still didn’t notice?”

Xu Yan felt confident he’d hidden it well and nodded. “They didn’t notice.”

“…I’m not so sure about that,” Lin Xingxian muttered.

When Xu Yan had followed Wen Sinian into the studio earlier, the staff hadn’t shown the slightest surprise — especially Zheng Yao, the shameless flatterer, who had clearly already started treating Xu Yan like the other boss of the place.

Xu Yan quietly watched Lin Xingxian paint for a while before Lin Xingxian handed him a drawing board and told him to try some “artistic creation” himself.

Xu Yan didn’t have much drawing skill, and the portrait he drew came out all crooked.

Lin Xingxian glanced at it and almost jumped, rubbing his chin as he tried to praise him. “Mm… I can tell it’s a person.”

Xu Yan looked at him expectantly. “Guess who it is.”

“Don’t tell me it’s Wen Sinian, hahaha.”

Xu Yan lit up with joy and nodded hard. “Mm, mm, mm!”

Lin Xingxian was silent for two seconds before bursting into laughter. “Hahahaha — it is him! Ahahaha, it’s so abstract — the nose is crooked! You’re five hundred years ahead of my art style!”

Xu Yan huffed. “Your brush is hard to use, and the drawing board is hard to use too.”

Still laughing, Lin Xingxian heard him add, “The paint is bad, the palette is bad… forget it, I’m not painting anymore.”

With that, he hugged his “masterpiece” and walked out without looking back.

Downstairs, the meeting had just ended. Seeing him standing at the railing on the second floor with a melancholy look, Wen Sinian came up the stairs, pulling him into his own office.

When he noticed the painting Xu Yan was holding, Wen Sinian took it for a look.

He raised an eyebrow. “This is me?”

Xu Yan’s eyes lit with surprise. “You can tell, right?”

Wen Sinian chuckled, set the picture down, and pulled him up so he could sit on the wide rosewood desk.

“Of course,” he murmured, brushing his lips against Xu Yan’s softly, “What made you think of painting me?”

Xu Yan turned his head, a little embarrassed.

Truthfully, his mind had gone blank while he was drawing, and halfway through he’d realized who he’d been thinking about.

“Don’t ask…” Xu Yan muttered quietly. “Are you done with work?”

Wen Sinian kissed the side of his neck, mouth warm against the thin skin as he sucked with unrestrained heat. “Mm.”

“Ah…” Xu Yan shivered and pushed him lightly. “Then when are we leaving?”

Today, Wen Sinian was in a tailored suit and tie, both hands braced on the desk to either side of Xu Yan, the muscles in his arms taut beneath the fabric, radiating strength and a certain predatory intent.

He’d been holding back for a while — finally, Xu Yan’s exams were over.

    A little appetizer first.

    “No rush.”

Wen Sinian lifted him, carried him to the office chair, set him back on the desk, and then sat down in the chair himself, looking up at him with an intense gaze.

The stare made Xu Yan nervous, and he tried to get off the desk, but Wen Sinian held his legs to keep him in place.

He twisted his waist. “I want to get down… the desk is cold.”

Wen Sinian simply grabbed a few nearby documents and slid them underneath him.

Then, loosening his tie, he leaned in, his upturned eyes locking onto Xu Yan’s.

He reminded him, “The documents are very important, baby.”

    “Don’t get them dirty.”
