by 707Grandma said gently, “I’m already so old, what’s there to worry about? Listen to Grandma. Don’t waste money. Save some for your future wedding, sweetheart.”
No matter what she said, Xu Yan wouldn’t agree. Private rooms were far better in terms of hygiene and safety. The doctors and nurses could also provide more focused care. The whole reason they had transferred to a hospital in the capital was for this.
As for the medical expenses, he’d figure something out.
He just didn’t know the actual cost right now, he’d have to ask Wen Sinian later.
Xu Yan stayed at the hospital until nearly 8 PM. During that time, Wen Sinian had messaged asking where he was. Xu Yan replied once but didn’t get a response afterward.
Leaving the room reluctantly, Xu Yan lowered his head, rubbing his eyes.
He should have been happy, Grandma’s condition had improved, and she was getting excellent care.
But because he wasn’t looking where he was going, he bumped his head into something hard and immediately fell into a firm embrace.
A familiar voice sounded beside his ear: “Why are you crying?”
Xu Yan looked up and, seeing the person before him was Wen Sinian, red-eyed, he immediately buried himself in his chest, rubbing against him and mumbling, “I’m not crying…”
A hand cupped his chin, lifting it gently. Wen Sinian bent down slightly and looked into his eyes. “Whatever happens, you have to tell me. No hiding things, understand?”
Xu Yan sniffled and nodded obediently. “Nothing happened. I just hadn’t seen Grandma in a long time… I missed her. It’s hard to say goodbye.”
Wen Sinian stroked the corners of his reddened eyes, chuckling, “Still acting like a child.”
Crying secretly after leaving the adults behind.
There were still quite a few people walking in the hospital corridor. Xu Yan, afraid of being seen, only let him hug for a brief moment before pulling away.
“How come you’re here?” he asked.
Wen Sinian wanted to hug and kiss his poor little face again, but he just stood there, eyes fixed on Xu Yan: “I came to pick you up.”
“You’ve been waiting long?”
Wen Sinian didn’t deny it: “Mm.”
He had watched Xu Yan’s back from the window for a while and waited outside the room until he finally came out.
“How long?” Xu Yan pressed. “Why didn’t you come in to find me?”
“Because I didn’t know if you wanted to see me right then.”
Xu Yan wrinkled his nose and said softly, “Of course I did. I didn’t see you all day today…”
Wen Sinian had been busy again these past two days and had left the dorm this morning before Xu Yan even woke up.
Wen Sinian stepped a little closer, casting his shadow over him.
“You’re not afraid your grandma will find out about us?”
Xu Yan paused. “I’ll just say you’re the senior who helped arrange the hospital transfer. She won’t suspect anything. Okay?”
“Okay.” Wen Sinian raised his brows at him. “I’ll do as you say.”
Xu Yan took the initiative to pull his arm, bringing him back to the hospital room. Before entering, he reminded in a whisper, “Don’t keep staring at me, and don’t touch me. You’re just my senior, remember?”
“Got it,” Wen Sinian said calmly. “Junior.”
Grandma saw Xu Yan return with a stranger trailing behind. She held her cup of warm water and stared at the two.
“Sweetie, who’s this?”
Xu Yan kept his cool. “Grandma, this is the senior I told you about earlier, the one who helped arrange your transfer. He happened to be at the hospital visiting someone today, and I ran into him outside. I brought him in to introduce you two.”
Wen Sinian gave a small nod, polite and respectful. “Hello, I’m Wen Sinian.”
Grandma looked at Wen Sinian, then at Xu Yan standing far from him.
“Sinian, I was just thinking I should thank you personally for all your help. You’ve done so much. You must let Yanyan treat you to a good meal sometime, proper thanks.”
Wen Sinian smiled, voice meaningful. “Already been treated.”
“Well, that’s great,” Grandma said warmly. “Come have a seat. All of Yanyan’s classmates treat me like their own grandma. Don’t be so formal.” She had to tilt her head up to look at him. Her cloudy eyes sparkled. “You’re so handsome, and tall too. Do you have a girlfriend?”
Xu Yan shot his grandma frantic glances, but she only smiled at Wen Sinian, ignoring him.
“Not yet,” Wen Sinian replied.
Xu Yan turned to look at him, expression slightly surprised and a little annoyed. But then he thought: I’m his boyfriend, not his girlfriend. That shut his frustration down instantly.
Grandma beamed. “Have you graduated and started working?”
“I’ll graduate next year. But I already have a studio, I started my own business.”
“Starting your own business is great. You’ve got potential. But it must be exhausting, balancing work and school. Do you even get time to rest?”
“I manage my schedule well,” Wen Sinian said. “I don’t need much sleep. I have a lot of energy.”
Xu Yan pouted, he was being way too modest. Wen Sinian had energy beyond human levels.
“If you’re Yanyan’s senior, you must know him well. How is he doing in school? Does he eat on time?” Grandma asked worriedly. “He always ate so little at home. Now that no one’s watching over him, I bet he’s even worse. Look how skinny his face is, his arms are almost as thin as mine!”
“His appetite is small,” Wen Sinian said, already sitting beside the bed. His gaze swept subtly over Xu Yan. “He’s never willing to eat more. If I nag him, he gets mad.”
Grandma fretted, “That’s what I worry about most. You can tell you’re built differently. I bet you’ve been tall and strong since you were a kid. Yanyan was always small, always stood near the back of the boys’ line in school, and he got sick easily. Probably genetic.”
“Height is largely determined by genetics,” Wen Sinian said, “but physique and health can be improved with training.”
Somehow, the two were really hitting it off. Xu Yan sat by listening, and before long, started dozing off from fatigue.
He suddenly heard the door open, Wen Sinian had stepped out to take a call.
Xu Yan quickly lowered his voice: “Grandma, how could you ask those kinds of questions?”
Grandma didn’t see the issue. “If I don’t know, how can I be reassured?”
“You can’t just ask people personal things like that, they’ll get annoyed.”
“I didn’t see him get annoyed. We were chatting just fine.”
“You even got his name wrong…”
But Grandma suddenly changed the subject: “Sweetie, tell me, have you been in touch with your cousin Zhuang Sheng lately?”
“No.”
“I heard your Uncle Zhuang and Auntie Zhuang say that Zhuang Sheng refuses to get married, won’t go to any of their arranged dates. Turns out, it’s because he doesn’t like women.”
Xu Yan froze, his back straightening immediately. “Grandma…”
She gently held his hand. “Even though your uncle and aunt say they’re disappointed in their son and think he’s strange, I don’t feel that way at all. I think love should be something pure. So it doesn’t matter if you like a woman or a man, having someone you love isn’t something to be ashamed of.”
Xu Yan’s eyes filled with a misty haze. He whispered, “Grandma… why are you telling me this…”
“Sweetheart,” her aged hand stroked the top of his head with tender love, “Grandma just wants you to stop worrying so much. Be open-hearted. Nothing is more important than seeing you happy.
“That way, Grandma will be happy too.”

When Xu Yan came out of the hospital ward, his eyes were redder than before.
Wen Sinian hadn’t finished his phone call yet. When he saw his face, a surge of arousal suddenly came over him. Without thinking much, he hugged him into his arms at the door of the ward.
“Let’s proceed with the plan we just discussed.”
After hanging up the phone, he held his face with one hand and softly asked, “What’s wrong?”
Xu Yan didn’t pay attention to the gazes of others and hugged him with both hands.
“There are too many people inside,” Wen Sinian reminded him.
Xu Yan looked up at him and said in a muffled voice, “Can you hug me for a little longer…”
Wen Sinian’s scalp tingled intensely. He tightened his arms, almost squeezing him into his bones.
“Okay.”
They embraced quietly in the corridor for a while. Xu Yan felt a bit better and patted his back, signaling him to let go.
Wen Sinian buried himself in the nape of his neck, and his high nose made him itch all over. Finally, he let go of him.
Xu Yan put his hand into his palm, “Take me back.”
Wen Sinian held him tightly, “Okay.”
When they returned to the school, it was almost midnight. There was no one in the dormitory. It was the final exam week, and everyone was fighting to cram in the library.
Xu Yan had started reviewing early, so he wasn’t very panicked now.
He and Wen Sinian stood together in front of the bathroom mirror to wash up. For a moment, he had the illusion that they were already living together.
After washing up, Xu Yan wanted to go out, but he was pulled back by an arm.
Wen Sinian closed the bathroom door and pressed him against the sink.
“What’s wrong tonight? Why are you crying?”
Xu Yan knew he couldn’t avoid it. His waist was a bit sore from being pressed, “Nothing, it’s just that my grandmother said some things to me…”
“Did she scold you?”
Xu Yan shook his head, “No.”
His grandmother wouldn’t bear to scold him.
“Then she doesn’t like me?”
Xu Yan shook his head again, “No, she should like you very much.”
The corner of Wen Sinian’s mouth lifted easily, “Is it because you were moved?”
“Mmm,” Xu Yan had a bit of a nasal voice, “She told me to be happy.”
Wen Sinian hadn’t experienced much warmth between family members. How could he be moved to tears by a word from a loved one? He didn’t understand.
But it didn’t stop him from feeling distressed by Xu Yan’s tears.
He lowered his head and kissed the open lips, “Then you should be happy, baby.”
Xu Yan’s eyes were bright. He nodded, “Happy.”
After answering, as if feeling it wasn’t enough, he also took the initiative to tiptoe and gently kissed the corner of his mouth, “What about you?”
His soft eyes blinked, full of expectation as he looked at him, “Are you happy?”
Wen Sinian was silent for a moment. It was as if there were taut bowstrings in the air, breaking one by one, turning into dust.
He didn’t need to answer. Xu Yan had already felt it.
Since returning from the port city a few days ago, the two of them hadn’t even had a proper kiss.
Just starting to break the vegetarian diet, his willpower was already very weak. With a gentle provocation, his rationality was like being swallowed by a flood.
Xu Yan sensed that the situation was not good and quietly tried to slip away and run.
Wen Sinian deliberately loosened the distance. Xu Yan was overjoyed and was about to rush out of the bathroom and take off his shoes to prepare to dive into his bed curtain.
Just as he climbed two steps, his ankle was suddenly grasped by a large hand, squeezing tightly, making it impossible for him to break free.
There was the sound of footsteps at the door, as if the two roommates who had gone out were about to return.
Xu Yan struggled with his feet. Unfortunately, that hand was as firm as an iron clamp. It went up along his leg and pulled his leg towards him. He couldn’t stand steadily and fell straight into his arms.
The sound of the door lock came from outside. Xu Yan was so scared that he flapped in his arms, trying to jump down from him.
If the other two roommates came in and saw this scene, he was being held by Wen Sinian with his legs spread apart…
During his struggle, Wen Sinian had already turned towards his own bed, lifted the bed curtain, and directly threw him onto the soft mattress.
At the same time, the dormitory door was opened from the outside.
Li Huaiche and Zhao Qingji saw that Wen Sinian had already changed into his pajamas and was standing by the bed, with the bed curtain even lifted open, looking as if he was about to go to bed.
“Wen-Ge, are you going to bed already?” Li Huaiche said, “There’s still half an hour before lights out.”
“Mmm,” Wen Sinian took the opportunity when the two were not paying attention, reached out and took something from Xu Yan’s bed, put it into his own bed curtain, and then stepped onto the bed, “I’m a bit tired. Please keep it down.”
“Got it.”
Li Huaiche turned off the ceiling light and only turned on a dim desk lamp.
Wen Sinian entered the bed curtain and saw that the person on the bed had already hidden into his own quilt, and the long-eared rabbit had been dragged in.
The space on the bed was small. He only needed to reach out under the quilt to grasp a section of the slender and smooth leg.
It was so tender that it oozed water when squeezed.
With a forceful pull, he pulled the person into his arms.
He stuffed the troublesome quilt into his waist, and the person underneath was completely exposed.
Only a weaker light could penetrate the bed curtain. The loose pajamas were even more loose, revealing a large area of soft white on the waist. The pant legs were rolled up to the thighs. The porcelain-white cheeks were hot, and a pair of watery eyes looked at him timidly, as if they could speak.
Wen Sinian was so aroused by his gaze that his blood was almost flowing backward. He pried open his legs again and pressed down.
