Read And Be Lazy
    Chapter Index

    At the same time—

    Los Angeles.

Chu Xuyu landed at the airport, wearing a black collared overcoat that outlined his tall, superior build—blending seamlessly with his dark, ink-like hair.

He sat in the backseat of the car, expression tight, en route to a private hospital.

Old Master Chu’s health had worsened again, and his condition had taken a turn for the worse. The entire, massive Chu family was urgently flying into L.A.

Chu Xuyu used a business trip as an excuse—not wanting Jiang Tian to worry. After all, his mother would be arriving this time too, and chances were high that she’d bring up the whole matter with Zhuang Zhe.

From what he knew, his mother would arrive two days later. But that didn’t mean he could relax.

That so-called “godson”—once favored by his mother as a male companion—had betrayed her. Even though he’d apologized and regretted it, she still took back his shares in multiple companies.

But that was between him and his mother. This trip wasn’t crushingly stressful, but the recent public announcement of his relationship might draw trouble from Chu Jianye.

    “President Chu,”

The driver, a longtime servant of the Chu household and familiar with its complex power dynamics, reminded him, “Chairman Chu has been calling and can’t reach you. Should I patch him through?”

Chu Xuyu turned to the window, voice cold: “Hang up.”

He knew exactly what Chu Jianye wanted—to demand an explanation.

Since the relationship had gone public, it became a major topic online. Netizens dug up old scandals within the Chu family, including unsavory stories about the chairman himself.

With Chu Jianye’s twisted logic, he’d probably blame everything on Chu Xuyu—including the worsening of Old Master Chu’s health, claiming it was brought on by stress from the scandal.

All the way there, Chu Xuyu’s expression remained dark—like the gloomy sky overhead.

Worried Jiang Tian might get concerned, he sent him a message, saying work would be busy for a few days and time zone differences might delay his replies.

After sending the text, still sleepless from the overnight flight, he closed his eyes to rest.

But he barely got the chance to relax. Upon arriving at the hospital, he quickly went to check on his grandfather.

The Chu family was vast, with many branches. It was rare for everyone to gather like this—but what was outrageous was that Old Master Chu’s condition wasn’t nearly as serious as Chu Jianye had described.

    “……”

Chu Xuyu clenched his anger. He realized now—this whole thing was a setup by that bastard.

The private hospital was packed. While exchanging pleasantries, the elders took the opportunity to subtly probe his recently announced relationship. Though their words were tactful, their intent was sharp.

His grandfather lay in the hospital bed. Chu Xuyu, face cold, forced himself to respond to a few polite inquiries before hurrying inside.

But it never ended. The moment he stepped out to catch his breath, relatives immediately swarmed him with questions about his “young boyfriend”—with skepticism laced in every word.

They believed the kid was too young to be serious about love. That Chu Xuyu was blinded, publicly declaring the relationship as if he’d been drugged by someone aiming for his wealth.

All of it was a test to his patience. Who flies across the globe to visit a sick grandparent only to be interrogated like this?

Every word was feigned concern, dressed up just enough to avoid sounding like criticism.

But then came the true idiot—the cousin he’d once accidentally hurt during an episode years ago.

The cousin approached, speaking without thinking: “Xuyu-Ge…”

“Is that little boyfriend of yours really reliable?”

This cousin had always been the black sheep of the family—dim-witted, with no sense of social cues. Even now, seeing Chu Xuyu’s thin smile, he still dared to grin and add, “Uncle even said that kid’s probably just after your money—”

Before he could finish, he met Chu Xuyu’s pitch-black eyes—so cold they were chilling.

    He shut up fast.

Pretending to apologize, he thought he could weasel his way out of the situation. As he turned to escape—

Chu Xuyu grabbed his collar and slammed him into the wall.

The cousin gasped in pain, tears springing to his eyes.

The noise alerted his father nearby, who rushed over, checking his precious son’s injuries while scolding him for being “careless”—a show of false concern.

Chu Xuyu spoke coldly: “If you really want to control your son, you’d best start now. Don’t come provoking me again.”

He didn’t feel like giving anyone face today.

Dealing with his mother’s side of the family was exhausting enough—now this orchestrated trap only added fuel to the fire. Furious, Chu Xuyu returned to the hotel after checking on his grandfather.

    Back in the suite.

He sipped some red wine but couldn’t calm down. Just as he was about to break something, a message popped up from his precious baby.

    KIRA: Ge.

    KIRA: I really miss you.

Chu Xuyu felt like someone had handed him a miracle cure. The rage simmered down, and he gulped down warm water, trying to appear composed.

Immediately, he typed out a message—carefully crafted, worried Jiang Tian might sense his mood, more worried his feelings wouldn’t be conveyed properly.

    AfternoonTea: Baby.

    AfternoonTea: Sweetheart.

AfternoonTea: I miss you so much too.

Even then, he didn’t feel it captured enough emotion—when suddenly, Jiang Tian called. No time to react.

Chu Xuyu wanted nothing more than to hear his voice. He picked up instantly. His voice hoarse with exhaustion: “You’re with that curly-haired kid?”

“No,” Jiang Tian sniffled, “He went back to school. I’m staying in a hotel alone.”

    At that moment—

Jiang Tian stood by the window. Outside, the Hai River shimmered with reflections of neon Ferris wheel lights. Beautiful beyond words.

But he wasn’t in the best mood. An uncle he hadn’t spoken to in years had suddenly called—not for anything meaningful, but to ask for money from him and his sister.

Still, Jiang Tian was good at managing his emotions. Just hearing Chu Xuyu’s voice made things feel better.

He smiled, snapped a photo, and sent it to his lover far away on a business trip.

    “Ge.”

Jiang Tian said softly, “I wish you were here with me.”

    Chu Xuyu thought—If only.

His breath grew warm. He asked, “Why are you so clingy today?”

Jiang Tian didn’t deny it. Leaning against the wall, fingers absentmindedly peeling a sticker from the window, his voice low and soft: “Do you like it?”

Chu Xuyu had drunk a little. Not enough to sound drunk—but the buzz was real.

    “Mn.”

    “I love you the most.”

    “… “

    With just a few words.

Even though they were separated by thousands of miles and different time zones, the sticky and tense atmosphere instantly filled their respective rooms, and both of them couldn’t help but feel a little flushed and their hearts racing.

“I heard about Lu Qiao and his boyfriend today.”

Jiang Tian didn’t go into much detail, but his language skills were excellent. With just a few words, he made the situation crystal clear, “They even have experience with nude video chats.”

This sentence seemed to be deliberately seductive.

In the past, Chu Xuyu couldn’t resist the temptation even when looking into his eyes, let alone feeling his boyfriend’s little thoughts and throwing out the key point, and deliberately asking him, “What’s nude chatting?”

    Jiang Tian: “… “

Chu Xuyu pretended not to understand, “I really don’t understand.”

Jiang Tian exhaled a misty breath, closed the window tightly, and pinched his burning ear, “Ge, you really understand, and you’re pretending not to?”

Chu Xuyu sat on the sofa, leaning back, his gaze falling on a certain part of his sweatpants. His skin suddenly burned, and he said hoarsely, “Baby.”

“Are you inviting me to do that with you?”

    “… “

Jiang Tian felt inexplicably dizzy, licked his lips, “I don’t know.”

He just felt very confused in his heart and wanted Chu Xuyu to accompany him. But as for what to do specifically, he was used to waiting for Chu Xuyu to take the initiative and give orders. No matter what, he was willing.

But this person was too smart, saw through his plan, and deliberately handed the initiative back to him, “If you don’t say it clearly, how can I understand?”

Chu Xuyu’s voice was low and sexy, his breath seemingly brushing against Jiang Tian’s ear, carrying a kind of seductive meaning, “Say you want to have a nude chat with me.”

“I’ll just accompany you to take a bath in the bathroom.”

Jiang Tian’s body was hot and restless. He looked in the direction of the hotel suite’s bathroom and said in a muffled voice, “…Mmm.”

Chu Xuyu smiled lightly, “Baby, I didn’t hear you clearly.”

    Jiang Tian: “… “

His face was flushed, and he quickly looked away, his gaze falling on the full-length mirror on the back of the door. He saw that his cheeks were red all the way down his neck, like a burning cloud.

    “Ge.”

Jiang Tian blinked his eyelashes, as if a butterfly was fluttering its wings. His breath was already in disarray, “Let’s have a video call.”

“I want to have a nude chat with you.”
