Read And Be Lazy
    Chapter Index

Lu Qiao—fully transformed into a howling werewolf—pointed to a certain cross-dressing cosplayer and cried, “My wife! Can I marry her?!”

    Hao: …

    KIRA: …

    Other teammates: …

    Wait…

    Was Lu Qiao actually gay?

Lu Qiao ranted in the chat: “I like girl cosplayers doing male characters! It’s still about the cute girl soul! Don’t question my straightness!”

Everyone roasted him anyway, digging up his past failed online dating story—where he’d fallen for someone with an angelic face, only to find out they looked better than him as both a guy and a girl, and rage-uninstalled the game in defeat.

    Jiang Tian: “……”

He didn’t even know about that.

Lu Qiao panicked and begged them to stop bringing up his dark history, steering the topic back to anime expo requests.

KIRA: Not sure if I’ll have time.

KIRA: If I go, I’ll bring you stuff.

    KIRA: Ping me later.

After sending the messages, Jiang Tian lay on his bed and turned off Wi-Fi.

    Still couldn’t sleep.

He reconnected, pulled up a certain mature-looking profile, and sent a message to Chu Xuyu.

    KIRA: Are you asleep?

Of course Chu Xuyu wasn’t asleep.

He was also methodical, but worked faster—packing hours before the flight was still considered early for him.

And Jiang Tian… was the reason he even cared about packing ahead.

    Afternoon Tea: Still packing.

    Afternoon Tea: You?

    KIRA: Already packed.

    KIRA: Ge.

    KIRA: Good night.

    Chu Xuyu: “?”

Why so sweet and proactive all of a sudden?

He ignored his half-packed suitcase and got up, holding his phone, mind full of images of a small puppy snuggling into its owner’s lap.

Possibility one: The little pup couldn’t bear the idea of being away from its owner.

Possibility two: The little pup was really nervous about being taken somewhere unfamiliar.

    Most likely…

    It was the second one.

Chu Xuyu was the type of man who executed everything with efficiency. After recalling the background he’d investigated—particularly the Jiang siblings losing their parents young—he contacted someone to look into the cause.

    Ten minutes later.

Chu Xuyu learned the truth—and froze.

It was something he hadn’t expected at all.

He remembered that plane crash vividly. It had made national headlines. Even now, it was occasionally brought up in retrospectives. One of the news covers had shown two tearful children, faces smeared with snot and tears. Pitiful beyond belief.

At the time, some had criticized the media for exploiting the tragedy. Even as a middle schooler, Chu Xuyu had found it deeply memorable.

Now, sitting stiffly on the edge of his bed, emotions strung tight, he quickly instructed Simon to adjust their itinerary.

He figured Jiang Tian was probably asleep by now, so instead of calling, he simply sent a few texts—not wanting the boy to suffer for his sake.

    Afternoon Tea: The itinerary changed.

Afternoon Tea: Wait at home for me.

Afternoon Tea: I’ll come pick you up.

    The Next Morning

Jiang Tian woke to his alarm, bleary-eyed and dazed. He checked his phone, read the messages, and went about his morning as usual.

Not wanting his sister to find out about his “mysterious dealings” with his former boss, he quietly left the house before Chu Xuyu’s car pulled up.

    “……”

It felt vaguely like sneaking out for a secret affair.

Especially when he saw Chu Xuyu sitting behind the wheel, window down, calling his name. Jiang Tian wheeled his suitcase over, loaded it in the trunk, and slipped into the passenger seat—neck already flushed red.

Chu Xuyu glanced at him. “Didn’t sleep well?”

“Wasn’t that bad.” Jiang Tian fiddled with his seatbelt, fumbling a few times before it finally clicked—his nerves clearly showing. “I usually sleep okay.”

It was a classic ‘totally not nervous’ move that gave him away instantly.

Chu Xuyu didn’t comment. He just hit the gas and drove straight to Ningcheng Station, parking steadily in the underground lot.

    Jiang Tian blinked. “Ge…”

“Aren’t we supposed to fly to Beijing?”

Chu Xuyu casually made up something about a flight delay and told him to get the luggage. He said he’d buy new stuff in Beijing instead—too much hassle bringing anything.

Jiang Tian followed along, but once they boarded and he saw the business-class train attendants help with their luggage, he realized—Chu Xuyu clearly wasn’t used to this.

The train from Ningcheng to Beijing would take nearly 10 hours. Even in the most luxurious seats, that was endurance-testing.

    “……”

Jiang Tian couldn’t think of any other reason.

There was no way a high-level CEO like Chu Xuyu would willingly suffer like this—unless it was for him.

While Chu Xuyu sat beside him, Jiang Tian discreetly checked the flight apps on his phone and confirmed his suspicion—no delays at all.

“Then give me a shoulder massage tonight.”

Chu Xuyu leaned slightly his way, his chiseled profile practically facing him. “At the hotel.”

There were other people seated nearby. Jiang Tian wasn’t sure if anyone heard that line—but his entire face turned red.

Chu Xuyu lifted a hand, just like that night, and touched Jiang Tian’s cheek lightly. “Why do you blush so easily?”

Jiang Tian didn’t pull away. He pressed his lips together, face a bit stiff. “Maybe ‘cause I’m pale.”

Chu Xuyu chuckled. “So you’re very aware of your strengths, huh?”

    Jiang Tian: “……”

How did this somehow turn into flirting again?

He didn’t know what to say. He had mentally prepared to repay Chu Xuyu somehow—but didn’t expect the opportunity to come this soon. They hadn’t even been on the train for an hour yet!

Eventually, Chu Xuyu folded his arms and dozed off.

With earbuds and an eye mask on, he tilted his head against the cold glass window, but clearly wasn’t comfortable.

Watching him shift a few times, Jiang Tian finally gave in.

When Chu Xuyu adjusted to the other side, Jiang Tian gently reached out and guided his head onto his own right shoulder.

Chu Xuyu’s breath hitched—half-awake, he murmured in a dreamy voice:

    “Good boy.”

    Jiang Tian: “……”

Why did it always sound like he was talking to a puppy?
