Read And Be Lazy
    Chapter Index

After wrapping up his chat with the “scumbag,” Jiang Tian quickly finished lunch. He still had football training that afternoon, and he and Lu Qiao had to grab their things and head to school.

From Xingfu Bay Residential Complex, it was only a ten-minute walk to No. 3 High School’s football field. To make things easier for Jiang Tian’s studies, Jiang Jing had used years of savings to put down a large payment on this premium school-zone apartment.

Jiang Tian had always been aware of how hard his sister worked. No matter what, he was determined to lure that scumbag out and make him realize—evil always gets what it deserves.

Of course, being a teenager deep in his anime-influenced chuunibyou phase, Jiang Tian had fully immersed himself in the role of a revenge-seeking anti-hero. What he didn’t realize was that his online account was full of glaringly obvious straight-boy energy.

The whole walk was filled with intense revenge talk, which only died down once they reached the locker room. There, Lu Qiao spotted a teammate from the sports class and for some reason insisted on dragging him to a bubble tea shop.

Just before they left, the guy even winked at Jiang Tian and mouthed, “Tian-ge, this guy is secretly gay. I’ll go extract some knowledge for you.”

    “…?”

Jiang Tian was caught off guard. His gaze briefly landed on the back of that teammate’s head before he nodded slowly, “Just ask casually.”

He really hadn’t realized there were so many gay people around him.

The locker room gradually emptied. Even with sunlight streaming through the window, the air felt chilly and cold.

Jiang Tian was unfastening his black sports band, stepping forward to press his elbow against the cold metal button of the locker. Clack—the door popped open.

He tugged up the collar of his lightweight sweatshirt and pulled it off in one smooth motion, followed by his track pants and the wristband—all shoved neatly inside.

Unlike bookish, quiet types, Jiang Tian radiated the fresh energy of a young athlete. His fair skin was wrapped in lean muscle, and his abs rose and fell gently with each breath. He had the kind of well-proportioned, powerful build typical of a serious football player.

In the blink of an eye, he had changed into a Bayern Munich uniform. He bent to tie his laces and caught a glimpse of himself in the full-length mirror.

The scumbag wasn’t going to be easy to trick. He wanted photos. Maybe this football uniform would help him take the bait.

Jiang Tian thought for a moment and called his sister, who had just returned to the company.

“Will answering my call bother you?”

    “No, it’s fine.”

Jiang Jing had just left the corporate HQ.

“Did you eat lunch? Why are you calling all of a sudden?”

    “I ate with Lu Qiao.”

Jiang Tian was quiet for a moment before explaining the situation and reassured her that he’d continue gathering evidence while she went abroad.

    Jiang Jing: “…”

It was a lot to take in. After a few seconds of silent processing, the now completely sober Jiang Jing took a deep breath.

“Since you’ve already added him, try to arrange a meet-up for when I’m back from the U.S.”

    “Mm.”

Jiang Tian lowered his lashes, voice soft.

Jie, did you ever tell him I was on the football team?”

    “Nope.”

And the moment she remembered, Jiang Jing got pissed all over again.

“Last time I brought up your college admission, that jerk lectured me about how ‘good grades aren’t enough’ and how you should ‘hit the gym more.’”

    “I didn’t bother arguing back…”

Jiang Tian knew his sister better than anyone. She wasn’t the type to argue. That’s probably why the scumbag assumed she was easy to manipulate.

     “Good. Better he doesn’t know.”

They talked a bit more about her business trip, then hung up. Jiang Tian scrolled to his camera app and took a few casual mirror selfies in his football gear.

Meanwhile, Lu Qiao—off on his milk tea mission—was already sending real-time intelligence:

Lu Qiao: “A-Hao really is gay. Knows way more than us straights. Says he bagged his husband with the white-socks-sports-boy buff!”

    Jiang Tian: “…”

Why did that sound so weird?

But as long as the logic made sense. Letting his nerd brain take over, he glanced at his selfies, deemed them passable, and opened the chat to leave a little trail of presence.

KIRA: I’m heading out to play. Took a few pics—will send them later.

Then, narrowing his eyes, Jiang Tian tossed the phone into the locker and slammed it shut. He jogged toward the football field, stretching his arms, thinking:
That ought to whet the bastard’s appetite.

    ***

Chu Xuyu was tied up in a high-level meeting when his phone buzzed. He didn’t check it until hours later.

For a high-powered CEO like him to be entangled with a random online flirt who was clearly toying with him? It was a one-of-a-kind experience.

But he wasn’t the type to get easily swayed. The world of a mature man was built on a strong sense of order. Very little ever affected his mood.

Due to his own upcoming business trip, Chu Xuyu had plenty to prepare for. Once things were settled, and night fell, he even made time to meet with a friend from the entertainment industry.

That friend—though a big star—lived a surprisingly low-key life. One of the few people in their circle who knew about Chu Xuyu’s orientation, he immediately laughed when he picked up on the subtext of Chu’s story.

    “This is wild.”

    Shen Yan grinned mischievously.

“President Chu, how’d this end up being pinned on me?”

They were in a high-end Western restaurant, warm vintage wall lights merging with the city night view.

Chu Xuyu sat by the window, lashes dark, his refined face holding a dangerous edge.

Shen Yan knew him too well. He looked fierce, and honestly wasn’t the easiest person, but if you were part of Chu Xuyu’s trusted circle, he’d put away all those sharp edges.

Chu raised his glass, lowered his eyes, and said in a flat tone: “As long as it’s not you.”

“That gave me chills,” Shen Yan joked.

“But hey, don’t you have a bunch of people on that account? Maybe some employee pranked you. Ever think of that?”

    Chu raised an eyebrow.

     “Then I’d be pretty incompetent.”

    “Hah.”

Shen Yan, who knew all about the dirty games of the industry, actually saw Chu Xuyu as a breath of fresh air.

“Then who could it be? Your dad, maybe…”

    “It’s not,” Chu Xuyu replied.

“I asked him. He thought I was making it up to avoid his marriage talk.”

“Yikes. Your dad’s really hellbent on finding a ‘good man’ to take care of you. Honestly? I’ve got no clue who it could be.”

Chu Xuyu was just as puzzled. Leaning his right cheek lazily against his hand, he frowned. In today’s fast-moving tech industry, it wasn’t impossible for someone to dig up his private info. Or maybe not everyone on his contact list was trustworthy.

The celebrity across from him was casually picking at his Western meal, while Chu Xuyu had little appetite. He idly scrolled through his phone, checking his contact list—family, friends, and a few trusted subordinates who could reach him in emergencies.

As of now, none of them seemed remotely suspicious.

Still unable to figure it out, Chu Xuyu tapped into that strange guy’s profile—and unexpectedly, saw a freshly posted “Moments” update.

    “…?”

Two photos, clearly not taken from the internet—one of a soccer field under the setting sun, and another of a bustling street barbecue stall.

Chu Xuyu squinted, about to double-tap and zoom in when a notification popped up: “This post has been deleted.”

He raised an eyebrow in amusement and let out a quiet snort.

Shen Yan looked up. “What? Find something interesting again?”

“Nothing,” Chu Xuyu replied, locking his phone with a flick of the wrist and picking up his knife and fork again. As if in passing, he added, “I think I remember… the old version of the app lets you see where a friend request came from?”

As twilight slowly melted into the sky, the upscale rooftop restaurant glowed gently under the crystal chandeliers.

In contrast, the small eats street near the old campus district was bustling and noisy, filled with all kinds of budget eateries.

A newly opened skewer shop was running a promotion: post about them on Moments and get a free soda. Jiang Tian, used to this kind of thing with his teammates, didn’t think twice. He casually posted to help promote the shop.

    “……”

But just one second later, the teenager’s fingers froze—and he quickly deleted the post.

Seeing Jiang Tian’s expression change instantly, Lu Qiao caught on and leaned over, “Tian-ge, did you forget to change the privacy settings?”

    “Yeah.”

Jiang Tian had played football all afternoon, sweat still on his brow. He’d almost forgotten about the whole “pretend to be gay and scam the scumbag” mission.
“Not sure if he saw it.”

Lu Qiao scratched the back of his neck.  “Doubt it. Isn’t that guy a 996 corporate drone? No way he saw your post before it got deleted.”

Jiang Tian could only hope so. For the next hour or so, he ate with the team until he was full. But he kept glancing at his phone, over and over.

Fortunately, the scumbag hadn’t messaged him.

    Maybe he really didn’t notice?

Still unsure, Jiang Tian decided to test the waters. After the team disbanded, he and Lu Qiao took a shortcut home. Under the dim streetlights, the teen’s face looked especially serious. He opened his phone and sent a message:

    KIRA: Done with work?

Walking behind Lu Qiao, Jiang Tian kept his head low, his fingers typing. Lu Qiao, meanwhile, was off to buy another overly sweet milk tea. Jiang Tian waited for him at the shop door.

    Buzz—

    A reply arrived.

    Afternoon Tea: Yeah.

    Afternoon Tea: Just finished work.

    KIRA: Have you eaten?

    Afternoon Tea: No.

Jiang Tian sighed in relief. Looked like the guy really had been too busy working to notice the deleted post.

Clearly lacking online dating experience, Jiang Tian hadn’t thought to use a burner account. He’d have to be more careful from now on—he couldn’t afford another rookie mistake.

It was early spring in Ning City, the crabapple blossoms in full bloom. Jiang Tian stood by a wall, the scent of street oden drifting on the breeze.

But in his head, the boy was silently repeating some absurd words: International school. Rich kid. Hardcore Top…

It was these exaggerated, fake traits—and a bit of fake concern—that had lured the thrill-seeking scumbag in.

    KIRA: Starving isn’t good.

KIRA: Can you give me your address? I’ll order food for you.

    Afternoon Tea: No need.

Afternoon Tea: Do you have the photos ready?

Afternoon Tea: If they’re ugly, I’m deleting you.

Jiang Tian scratched at his earlobe with his curled index finger, as if a mosquito had bitten him.

‘This guy’s texts were more annoying than the bug.’

KIRA: Didn’t you say you only cared about the body?

KIRA: You never said it had to include the face.

    Afternoon Tea: Fine.

    Afternoon Tea: Send it.

KIRA: Then let me say this first—

KIRA: If you’re satisfied with what you see, let’s meet and hook up sometime.

    Afternoon Tea: ……

By the time he received that outrageous message, Chu Xuyu had already parted ways with his friend. He was in the underground parking lot, leaned back in the driver’s seat of his luxury sports car. Beneath that sharp, cold exterior, he radiated thinly veiled irritation.

Lighting a cigarette, he narrowed his eyes and tapped the steering wheel with a finger.
Fine. Let’s see what this scammer really looks like.

Afternoon Tea: Haven’t even shown your face yet.

Afternoon Tea: Why are you making demands?

    KIRA: [Shared Photo]

     KIRA: There, I sent it.

Chu Xuyu barely glanced before his fingers—still holding the cigarette—visibly trembled.

His pupils contracted, and his breath came hot and fast, like lava bubbling under the surface for centuries and now ready to erupt.

In the photo, the teenager was wearing a football uniform. His skin was porcelain fair, his build like an unfinished Greek sculpture—firm, handsome, bursting with youthful energy.

Even without intentionally showing off his body, the way the fabric wrapped around his figure exuded a raw, natural beauty that stood in stark contrast to greasy gym thirst traps.

    “……”

Chu Xuyu swallowed hard, put out the cigarette, and exhaled a puff of smoke. He quickly typed and sent a message:

Afternoon Tea: Is this really you?
