Read And Be Lazy
    Chapter Index

If fans demanded refunds, the losses would come out of his salary—six months wouldn’t even begin to cover it.

In his panic, he grasped at straws.

He’d heard someone at the booth mention “those two handsome guys” looked perfect for the roles.

When he turned and saw Chu Xuyu and Jiang Tian, it was like spotting divine intervention.

So he rushed over, practically begging them for help.

To be fair, this wasn’t the kind of thing you could pressure people into.

But the staffer seemed like the type who’d faint from guilt if turned down, tears already pouring as if he might collapse on the spot.

Chu Xuyu casually said, “I’m fine with it. Ask my little brother.”

Jiang Tian turned, surprised—not only because he’d agreed, but also because of the deliberately ambiguous “little brother.”

    His ears turned bright red.

Still, he nodded. “As long as we don’t need to show our faces, right?”

The staffer nodded furiously. “Yes! Absolutely!”

“We’ve got pro costumes and full headpieces. And after the event, we’ll gift you merchandise and a part-time performance fee!”

“Really, thank you, both of you—you’re lifesavers!”

Jiang Tian kept his cool. “No big deal.”

He also mentioned he had a long fan merch list to complete.

If the event organizers had friends who could help him with the list while he was backstage, he’d transfer money for the purchases.

The staff happily agreed. “Not a problem at all!”

    And so—

Under staff guidance, the two of them hopped into a transport cart and were zipped off to the backstage area.

The venue’s air-conditioning was cranked too low, cold air slipping under clothes.

Then came Chu Xuyu’s voice, warm breath brushing close:

“You should ask if we can get an autograph for the curly-haired kid.”

    “…!”

Jiang Tian only then realized—by participating in the event, getting signed merch from the Coser cast would be way easier.

He rested his hands on his knees, smiling lightly.

“I tend to forget things when I’m busy.”

“Good thing I’ve got you to think of it, ge.”

Seeing him finally use a more affectionate tone, Chu Xuyu stopped pretending to be distant.
He rested his elbow lazily on the side of the cart, smirking.

    His voice low: “Ready?”

    Jiang Tian blinked. “Hm?”

“If we’re playing a couple,” Chu Xuyu said knowingly, “there’s probably going to be some… physical contact on stage.”

    Jiang Tian: “…”

    “I— I’m ready.”

He’d considered that earlier—that was why he’d hesitated at first.

But in hindsight, maybe he was the one overthinking.

It’s not like Chu Xuyu would mind an excuse to tease him anyway.

    At the dressing room—

Staff brought out costumes and full headgear.

In the manhua, the characters were a puppy-type younger brother and a wolfish older bro.

Naturally, their outfits included fuzzy ears and tails.

Normally, Jiang Tian changed into his soccer gear in seconds—quick, clean, no fuss.
But for some reason, this cosplay outfit was giving him endless trouble.

The costume itself wasn’t complicated—just an Adidas-style school uniform meant to match his high schooler role.

It was the fuzzy dog ears and tail that were the real challenge.

He’d been fiddling with it for ages in the dressing room. Outside, Chu Xuyu couldn’t help but ask:

    “Everything okay in there?”

His voice was calm, magnetic as always—but held a trace of impatient tension Jiang Tian didn’t pick up on.

Still struggling with the tail and suspicious of the waistband’s bizarre button design, Jiang Tian called back:

    “Almost done!”

“Just wait a little longer, Ge.”

    A short silence.

Then Chu Xuyu asked, voice thicker now: “Want me to help?”

Before Jiang Tian could change his mind, he unlocked the door—and was immediately greeted by Chu Xuyu in full cosplay.

    And froze.

The man had naturally broad shoulders, a trim waist, and a noble bearing.

Wearing a fitted butler-style ensemble, complete with vest, long coat, formal trousers, a Windsor-knotted tie and white gloves—he looked like an aristocrat straight out of a manga.

His fringe fell just right, casting sharp lines across his face. He exuded restraint. Control.

A walking personification of “don’t touch unless you mean it.”

Jiang Tian’s breath caught in his throat.

Then Chu Xuyu stepped in and caught sight of him.

Jiang Tian, in full dog-eared headband, cheeks faintly flushed.

The soft fur of the ears and his delicate, clean features—it hit Chu Xuyu like a truck.

In the tight space of the dressing room, their shared heat made the air stifling.
Chu Xuyu walked forward and gently pinned Jiang Tian against the wall.

    “Didn’t you ask for help?”

    His gaze burned.

One hand reached toward the tail:

    “Turn around?”

    Jiang Tian: “…”

    This pose… it was ridiculous.

He tilted his chin up slightly, jaw clenched tight, struggling to hold his ground—silent, but clearly conflicted.

Chu Xuyu picked up on it.

He didn’t force it. But his restraint was threadbare as he leaned in closer:“You’re really cute.”

The words made Jiang Tian’s lashes quiver and the tips of his ears burn.

“I’m not cute,” he insisted weakly.

“Check the mirror,” Chu Xuyu murmured, voice rough at the edges, his lips grazing Jiang Tian’s ear.

     “A little puppy grew ears.”

Jiang Tian glanced, immediately looked away—too late.

Chu Xuyu caught that flicker of reaction, eyes gleaming.

He was so close. The fire in his gaze was palpable. It didn’t hold anything else—just him.

Jiang Tian’s breathing picked up. He murmured:

“Ge, we need to finish changing. We’re going onstage soon.”

“Mm,” Chu Xuyu’s voice dropped an octave.

“I’ve been spoiling you all day. Don’t I get a reward?”

After all, it had always been Chu Xuyu giving—tickets, merch, time.

Every gift hit squarely at Jiang Tian’s weak points.

Hearing that, guilt prickled in Jiang Tian’s chest. His whole relationship with this man still felt tied to the lie that started it.

    His Adam’s apple bobbed once.

Softly, he said:“What do you want, ge?”

Chu Xuyu leaned in, lips just brushing his ear.

    “A kiss.”

    “…!”

Jiang Tian’s pupils widened in shock.

And then—hot lips met his cool ones, lingering.

It wasn’t aggressive. It didn’t go further than a press.

But it burned. A quiet, smoldering kind of burn.

For someone who had kept his first kiss for eighteen years…

Jiang Tian couldn’t even breathe properly.

Maybe it was his stunned reaction, maybe it was the way his wide eyes shimmered—like a startled animal—

But Chu Xuyu moved one hand up to cup his face, tilting it, changing the angle.

    He kissed him again.

    This time, slower.

    More sure.

Then, hovering just close enough to brush their foreheads together, Chu Xuyu whispered, voice gravelly with restraint:

    “Baby…”

    “Was that your first kiss?”
