Read And Be Lazy
Chapter Index

That bedtime hug must’ve worked wonders—Jiang Tian didn’t have a single nightmare. In fact, he dreamed of something so bizarre it bordered on comedy.

In his dream, the once-scary “Big Wolf Bro” who had kidnapped him before… had become strangely domesticated.

Big Wolf Bro came over with a little whip in hand to apologize. He admitted all his dark, twisted possessiveness, begging this “Little Puppy Bro” for forgiveness.

Jiang Tian: “……”

Ge…

This is getting ridiculous.

Last episode, he was tied to a chair and helpless, now it’s turned into a wholesome kiddie show. The two fluffy animals licked each other’s wounds, and before he woke up, the dream even played that familiar “Aniplex” jingle.

“……”

Talk about chaotic channel-crossing.

When Jiang Tian woke up, he was in a pretty good state. Coming downstairs, he bumped into Chu Xuyu, who had just finished his morning workout.

The man wore a sleeveless black shirt, arms toned with lean muscle—not exaggerated, but radiating a mature man’s charm.

Jiang Tian paused, slightly dazed. The image of “Big Wolf Bro” lingered in his head, and he couldn’t help spacing out a little.

Chu Xuyu noticed the cute daze.

“Still not fully awake?”

“Kind of.”

Jiang Tian rarely slept in this late. He walked over and asked, “Did you eat breakfast yet, Ge?”

If he hadn’t, Jiang Tian was ready to cook something simple. But it turned out Chu Xuyu had a dedicated nutritionist, and the steamer was keeping two portions of breakfast warm, preserving all the flavor.

Still, Chu Xuyu was curious to taste his little boyfriend’s cooking. Once Jiang Tian finished washing up and joined him, Chu Xuyu asked, “Want to cook tonight? I can help prep.”

“…I might have plans tonight.”

Jiang Tian held his knife and fork, voice cautious.

“My friends invited me out, so I might need to head out in a bit. Is that okay?”

Chu Xuyu’s chewing slowed.

“Are you asking because you think I’d say no?”

Jiang Tian didn’t respond.

Chu Xuyu set down his cutlery and dabbed his lips with a napkin. He looked up and said seriously, “Jiang Tian.”

“I’m not your boss.”

 “We’re in a relationship.”

Chu Xuyu might be dominant when it came to intimacy, but when he said this, Jiang Tian was momentarily stunned—then smiled, relieved.
“Yeah.”

 “I know.”

Chu Xuyu smiled back. As they chatted over breakfast, he casually asked, “Want me to pick you up from the field later tonight?”

“Let’s see.” Jiang Tian wasn’t sure about the schedule yet—his friends were still deciding on the venue.

“I might not play tonight. You should handle your stuff.”

Chu Xuyu raised an eyebrow. He didn’t have much going on tonight, and would’ve loved to pick Jiang Tian up, maybe even watch him play—it was a real visual treat.

But he could sense it.

Too much clinginess was wearing on Jiang Tian. Last night’s mood wasn’t just tiredness. Maybe it had to do with that run-in with the banker’s son—but it was better to stay mindful of it.

After breakfast, Chu Xuyu was heading to the office anyway. He drove the slick black SUV dubbed “Dark Knight” and dropped Jiang Tian off at the IFC mall.

At the side road by the mall’s back entrance—

The black SUV blinked its hazards. Jiang Tian stepped out from the passenger side, then leaned through the open window.

“Ge, I’m heading to find the guys.”

“Mhm.”

Chu Xuyu had one hand on the wheel, slightly turned to face him.
“Call me if anything happens.”

Jiang Tian smiled. He was going to say nothing would happen, but instead, he nodded along.

“Got it. Drive safe.”

“I will.”

Chu Xuyu smiled too before rolling up the window and driving off toward the financial district.

Jiang Tian stood there for a few seconds, then turned—and instantly locked eyes with Lu Qiao, who had appeared out of nowhere near the entrance.

His heart sank.

Apparently Lu Qiao had just arrived. He was blinking rapidly, staring between Jiang Tian and the now-vanished car. His throat bobbed up and down—he couldn’t say a single word.

Jiang Tian’s reflexes betrayed him. He definitely looked flustered. And Lu Qiao had definitely seen everything.

Trying to act casual, Jiang Tian approached him.

“You took a cab?”

“Tian-Ge…”

Lu Qiao looked stunned, still frozen in place.

“The guy who dropped you off… that wasn’t President Chu, was it?”

“……”

The heat outside was intense. After just a short wait, sweat was forming on their skin. Jiang Tian led them toward the mall entrance and gave a muffled response:

“It was.”

Lu Qiao: “?!!!”

They hadn’t done anything intimate, but their interaction was way too off. Not only were they clearly not in a boss-subordinate relationship anymore, but wasn’t Jiang Tian the guy who had pissed off that tyrant CEO before?

Yet they acted so naturally—so casually, with hints of… intimacy?!

What the hell…

Lu Qiao was still mentally processing the previous gossip about Zeng Jiaxiang’s gay hookup in the restroom, and now his best bro was possibly also gay—and with the scariest man alive?!

This was too much for a straight man’s brain.

The two of them had never shared such an awkward moment. They silently rode the elevator up to the hotpot place, with air around them colder than winter.

Thankfully, Zhao Yuanhao and the rest of the guys were already there. Their enthusiasm broke the ice, and the group went into Ji Ji Hong, a reasonably priced new hotpot spot.

Lu Qiao sat next to Jiang Tian like always. With the rest of the crew there to energize the mood, that awkward tension vanished quickly.

This hotpot restaurant was a themed shop—cheap prices, flashy decor that could only be described as “black with five rainbow filters.” The vibe inside felt like a secret mission was about to unfold.

They hadn’t even touched the menu before the gossip fire reignited. Lu Qiao was clearly bursting, but IRL, he was like an old computer stuck in buffering.

“Let’s just… just see what we’re eating first,” Lu Qiao stammered, pretending to read the menu while his hand twirled a pen faster and faster—anything to hide how his fingers were shaking.

“We’ll talk after we order, okay?”

Everyone knew Lu Qiao too well. He was always the most dramatic and gossip-hungry of them all. His stuttering now only made them more suspicious.

“You holding back on us, huh?”

“Yeah, we skipped soccer for this—weren’t you gonna expose that suit-wearing guy’s entire background?”

“What the hell, Lu Qiao—did you hit your head on the way here?”

People even started lightly shoving him. Lu Qiao nearly toppled into Jiang Tian.

Barely holding it together, he fanned himself with the menu and played the “heatstroke” card.

And as always—

Jiang Tian, the dependable one, stepped in.

He gently pulled the menu from Lu Qiao’s elbow, took the pen, and calmly asked everyone what they wanted to eat.

He always had this quiet authority. The kind that made everyone naturally fall in line. They picked broth bases and meat and veggies, and gave Lu Qiao a much-needed chance to recover.

The unspoken understanding between them was built on years of friendship. That’s why Lu Qiao was frustrated with his own reactions—he shouldn’t be this shaken.

Not long after—

The soup base and ingredients were served. With the air conditioner humming and hot pot bubbling away, Lu Qiao finally calmed down and resumed his breaking news conference.

It all started when he left the KTV. The restroom on the same floor was packed, so he tried going to another level, but ended up wandering into the office tower’s shared elevator hall.

It was so quiet it felt like a horror movie set. If he hadn’t been so gutsy, Lu Qiao swore he would’ve turned back and missed this scandalous drama altogether.

“I just wanted to handle my business, alright? My stomach was killing me—you guys know the feeling when your bladder’s about to explode?”

“Come on! Don’t look at me like I’m gross!”

“The lights were off in the office wing. I thought no one would be there—who knew someone would pick that kind of place to get freaky?”

“And of all people—it had to be Zeng Jiaxiang, that bad-luck bastard!”

“……”

The more they listened, the more thrilling it became, even though most of the story had already been told. But Jiang Tian hadn’t been there the first time, so now the group was digging into every detail to figure out the identity of the man in the suit.

—Could it be Jiang Jing’s ex-fiancé?

That wasn’t much of a secret anymore. Jiang Jing was close with these boys. During her trainee days, she used to buy them fried chicken and burgers. After her engagement fell through, it was hard not to suspect the guy had skeletons in his closet.

At that point—
