Read And Be Lazy
Chapter Index

Jiang Tian recalled that the last time he touched a car was back in driving school, operating the instructor’s manual vehicle. With one lucky press of the accelerator, he passed his third driving exam.

Now, he was sitting behind the wheel of a sleek, low-profile black sports car, hands clutching the steering wheel, palms damp with sweat.

All because of him.

Sitting next to him was the dangerous and slightly wicked CEO, who deliberately drank in front of him—clearly to force him into acting as a designated driver, leaving him with no way to refuse sending the man home.

But Jiang Tian didn’t have the right to say no anyway. Outwardly, he just drove quietly, eyes fixed on the road ahead, looking every bit like a cautious beginner.

Even without much on-road experience, he drove surprisingly steadily, his pacing and speed just right—enough that even a seasoned driver like Chu Xuyu found it comfortable.

The man sat with arms crossed, gazing at him sideways. His eyes churned with deep, unreadable emotion.

Suddenly—

Chu Xuyu spoke without warning.

“Super Buff Guy.”

“?!”

The car, which had been driving steadily, jolted suddenly. He had clearly pressed too hard on the gas pedal.

Jiang Tian was so embarrassed he wanted to leap out of the window.

Chu Xuyu suppressed a crooked smile, not hiding the amusement in his gaze. He watched as the boy quickly regained composure and returned to smooth driving, as if pretending not to have heard.

But it was no use. The faint blush spreading across Jiang Tian’s ears betrayed his embarrassment, making Chu Xuyu all the more eager to tease.

“Why aren’t you answering?”

“……”

Jiang Tian’s voice was clear and pleasant, calm yet sincere.

“I’ve only had my license for less than half a year,” he explained.

“I don’t dare get distracted while driving.”

It was a fair enough excuse. Chu Xuyu chuckled lightly. He found dealing with a top-student type like him both amusing and interesting.

“Then keep your eyes on the road.”

Jiang Tian didn’t dare slack off and replied, “Okay.”

They drove up the elevated highway, leaving behind the old city with its fading streets, headed toward the modern East District.

In Ning City—a place rich in ancient charm—the southern district was dotted with scenic spots, temples, and traditional homes with gray bricks and white walls.

In contrast, the East District, a rapidly developing urban zone, glittered at night like a galaxy of stars—utterly different from the quaint southern charm.

Jiang Tian focused on driving. He didn’t hear the CEO speak again. Occasionally he glanced at the GPS, but out of the corner of his eye, he could still feel Chu Xuyu staring at him.

“……”

The boy’s heart was a mess the whole way. Until they reached their destination, neither of them said a word.

Half an hour later, the car pulled into the luxurious parking garage of the Jingting Lakeside Residence. The atmosphere became even more delicate. That faint awkward silence crept in once more.

Jiang Tian turned off the engine. The overhead lights blinked on. He didn’t hear any instruction from the man beside him and didn’t dare move on his own.

Chu Xuyu had only drunk half a beer—far from drunk—but in the enclosed car, the faint smell of alcohol lingered in the air.

Then came a direct order: “Come upstairs with me.”

“……”

Jiang Tian froze. He didn’t dare move a muscle.

Chu Xuyu frowned.

 “Not coming?”

Jiang Tian hesitated for a moment, as if gathering courage, and cautiously asked, “Don’t you have anything you want to ask me?”

Chu Xuyu, who had been sitting still, leaned back against the seat and replied with interest: “You’d better think carefully before you speak.”

“……”

This man really has a bad temper, Jiang Tian thought.

Still stiff and awkward, he didn’t dare meet his eyes. But he knew tonight was the best time to come clean—otherwise, next time, the “talk” probably wouldn’t be so peaceful.

“Mr. Chu… it’s all been a misunderstanding. I can explain properly.”

Calling him “Mr. Chu” made it feel like there was a vast distance between them—a hint of generational gap even.

Chu Xuyu clearly didn’t like the sound of it. He rubbed his temples and said coldly: “Call me something else.”

“…Okay. President Chu,” Jiang Tian corrected obediently.

Chu Xuyu squinted at him, thinking it wasn’t much different, but let it slide.

“You know I’m your sister’s boss.”

Jiang Tian had already rehearsed this moment countless times in his head. Nerves on edge, he answered quietly, “Yes.”

“You knew from the beginning?”

“No.”

“Then when did you find out?”

“……”

Jiang Tian suspected the man already knew the answer. He just wanted to see if he’d lie again.

With no excuse left, Jiang Tian admitted with an apologetic tone: “The day my sister came back from her U.S. business trip.”

Chu Xuyu hummed in acknowledgment. That matched his expectations.

“You started planning your escape that very day.”

“Even faked being sick pretty convincingly.”

“You’re lucky your injuries were real.”

“……”

The implication was clear: If you had truly been lying from the start, tonight would’ve been a lot more painful.

Jiang Tian felt the same. His petty tricks were laughable in hindsight. Every time he thought back, he cringed with secondhand shame. He didn’t expect Chu to be kind or forgiving.

But—

Chu Xuyu didn’t press further. He got out of the car without even taking the keys.
Before closing the door, he said simply: “Come upstairs.”

Still seated, Jiang Tian froze for a few seconds. Then, gritting his teeth, he picked up the car keys and followed.

Though Chu Xuyu was tall and elegant, Jiang Tian was still a few centimeters taller. The two entered the elevator one after the other. Their overwhelming auras made even the spacious cabin feel cramped.

Ding.

They reached the top floor. Surprisingly, Chu Xuyu raised an arm to block the elevator door, signaling for Jiang Tian to go out first.

The boy’s ears were too soft—though no words were spoken, he still walked out like he’d been coaxed. That seemed to satisfy the CEO.

The lights were bright. The luxury of the penthouse exuded refinement. Even before entering, the scent of high-end aromatherapy wafted through the air.

Chu Xuyu paused at the door, reaching for the fingerprint scanner, then glanced back at him—a look filled with silent pressure.

Jiang Tian’s hesitation had already been predicted. That gaze felt like an unavoidable fate. In the end, he convinced himself to walk inside.

Forget it.

He’d already informed his sister of everything. No matter what happened tonight, someone would have his back.

Chu Xuyu let him in just like that, though he hadn’t expected that this little troublemaker would enter wearing a half-dead, reluctant expression—like Chu was some kind of man-eating devil.

Even though the boy was undeniably good-looking, without any romantic atmosphere at all, Chu Xuyu naturally felt less inclined. He unhurriedly took off his watch.

The two stood awkwardly at the entryway, caught in silence. Neither broke it.

It began to irritate Chu Xuyu. He looked at Jiang Tian, who clearly hadn’t planned to take off his shoes, and directly cornered him against the door with a loud thud, demanding: “Are you going to sit or not?”

“I…”

Jiang Tian nearly lost his nerve. He could tell Chu Xuyu was deliberately trying to scare him. He averted his eyes.

“You mean… go sit on the couch for a bit?”

Setting aside the fact that their entire relationship was built on deception, there was also a massive status gap between them. Even if it had really been a legit online relationship, the biggest unresolved issue was—

Their usernames had collided in a very risky and awkward way.

In this kind of situation, who in their right mind would still try to do that kind of thing… unless the other party was going to force him into being the “bottom.”

But based on how his sister described her boss, this CEO seemed like a decent person. Surely he wouldn’t force a straight-A high school student into something like that, right?

Who could’ve guessed—

Chu Xuyu’s next words nearly gave Jiang Tian a heart attack.

“Are you scared I’ll force you to bottom?”

Jiang Tian: “…………”

Ge.

Please. Just stop talking.

The boy looked like he was about to cry from frustration. He stood there like a floppy-eared puppy, the soft lighting of the luxurious home making him seem even more pitiful as he tried to appeal to his sister’s boss’s better nature.

“President Chu isn’t that kind of person,” he flattered.

“Jie always praises you at home.”

“?”

Chu Xuyu almost laughed from how absurd it was. Arms crossed, he stared at him with amusement: “And what if I am?”

Jiang Tian opened his mouth, but words failed him.

What could he do? He didn’t think he’d lose in a fight, and running away wasn’t impossible—but if he did, how would he fix things afterward?

So he could only stand there, meeting Chu Xuyu’s gaze with what was unintentionally a pitiful look. He didn’t mean to act pathetic—it just happened.

Chu Xuyu clicked his tongue. He hadn’t expected the boy to be this good at playing that card. Even angry, he felt a little soft-hearted. Kicking off his leather shoes, he said:

“Find your own slippers.”

Jiang Tian nodded lightly.
“…Okay.”

He was wearing white sneakers. He carefully removed them and immediately noticed a pair of brand-new slippers that seemed like they’d been prepared in advance. He bent down to put them on and neatly arranged both his sneakers and the expensive leather shoes beside them.

He really looked like a second homeowner.

Chu Xuyu silently took note of the gesture—oddly touched by it—but didn’t show it. He said coldly: “I’m going to take a shower.”

“?!” Jiang Tian panicked.

 Why again?!

Chu Xuyu saw his expression and was a little surprised.
‘ This brat… maybe not as innocent as he acts.’

“Sweetheart,” he said teasingly,

“Looks like you know the steps pretty well.”

“……”
