Chu Ya paused: “You locked a puppy in that tin house and let it wait for you for a day. What can it do if not run away?”
“It just doesn’t like me, so I don’t want to like it either.”
Chu Ya spent the whole afternoon drawing animals, but all of them were rejected. He could only sigh helplessly: “Then what do you like?”
Shen Qianqian turned his head and glanced at him faintly: “I like those without feet and can’t run.”
Chu Ya looked ahead in silence, and suddenly turned around after a moment, reaching out to pinch Shen Qianqian’s legs under the quilt: “No feet, no feet, you keep saying no feet every day, I’ll make you have no feet…”
Shen Qianqian laughed out loud when s
he was pinched, fluttering and shouting that it was tickling, until he didn’t even have the strength to laugh anymore, and Chu Ya let go.
Chu Ya turned off the lights, and the room went dark.
“Go to sleep.”
“Hahaha…”
“Go to sleep!”
“Hahaha…”
“I didn’t pinch your feet, why are you still laughing?”
“Hahaha…”
When Shen Qianqian finally stopped laughing, he leaned on Chu Ya’s shoulder, still mumbling.
Chu Ya looked at the roof in the dark and whispered, “Then don’t you have any favorite animals?”
“Yes!”
“It can’t be a cabinet ghost, it can’t be a ghost without legs.”
“Table ghost.” Shen Qianqian turned over to face him, looking at the vague profile of Chu Ya, “I have a favorite animal.”
“What is it?” Chu Ya didn’t expect to hear any reliable answer.
“Raccoon.”
“Raccoon?” Chu Ya looked at Shen Juan Juan in surprise, “You suddenly like raccoons? You haven’t seen it either.”
Shen Qianqian said as if whispering, “It has brown fur, black round eyes, and two small ears on its head.”
Chu Ya was silent. This was what he had thought of his favorite animal before, and the answer he had given him at that time.
“I like raccoons very much.”
Chu Ya heard the seriousness in Shen Qianqian’s words, knowing that this was his true inner thought, and knowing that he liked raccoons because of his preference for raccoons.
It would be great if Shen Juan Juan’s quantum beast was a raccoon, but he had never even seen a raccoon.
“I like raccoons very much, they are so beautiful, and their fur is brown.” Shen Qianqian closed his eyes and reached out to stroke the imaginary raccoon in the air, “Its eyes are black and round, and there are two small ears on its head.”
Chu Ya listened quietly, recalling his mother’s raccoon, and felt a pang of sadness in his heart.
“…Its fur is very comfortable to touch, with a small ear on its head, and one arm is missing…”
Chu Ya suddenly came to his senses and turned to look at Shen Qianqian, only to see that he had held the little bear with a broken arm in his arms at some point, pinching its ear with one hand and drawing its shape in the air with the other hand.
“Stop, stop.” Chu Ya hurriedly shook Shen Qianqian, “Raccoons are not like this, don’t mess around.”
“I’m not messing around, it’s really a very nice raccoon, and it likes me very much.” Shen Qianqian was still waving his arms and drawing, with a smile on her face.
“Stop, stop, stop.” Chu Ya pinched his face and shook him, and whispered, “You’re crazy. You like all kinds of bears.”
“What a cute raccoon.” Shen Qianqian closed his eyes and chuckled, “Haha, what a cute raccoon.”
Chu Ya realized that he was deliberately making trouble, so he ignored him and just stuffed his hand into the quilt, “Go to bed quickly. Since you like raccoons, I will draw a few more raccoons tomorrow. You can look at the picture and draw it yourself.”
Chu Ya also lay down and tucked in the quilt, but Shen Qianqian raised his head and put it close to his ear, “What a cute raccoon, hehe, what a cute raccoon. I’m talking about raccoons, raccoons, I’m going to start drawing raccoons.”
Chu Ya lay flat and ignored him, but he kept talking and even moved Chu Ya’s eyelids to let him see that he was drawing a raccoon. Chu Ya closed his eyes and reached out to touch the edge of the bed.
“What a cute raccoon… What are you looking for?”
Chu Ya said nothing and slowly raised a clothes hanger.
Shen Qianqian put away his playful smile, lay down and curled up in the quilt: “I’m going to sleep, I’m asleep, huh…”
The next day, Shen Qianqian returned to the welfare home early in the morning to collect food. The weather was bad, and it rained again in the abyss. The already low temperature dropped again. Chu Ya wrapped Shen Qianqian’s whole body like a cotton bun, put on a raincoat, and then took him to the welfare home.
The dust in the alley was washed away by the rain during this period, revealing the clean stone floor below. The wheelchair pressed over the shallow water layer, making a slight splashing sound.
“Child, life is like this. Instead of being unhappy, you might as well sing and bask in the sun with grandpa… Grandpa’s car beeped, da da, beeped…”
Shen Qianqian sat in front of Chu Ya. Not only was he wearing a raincoat, but he was also covered by Chu Ya’s raincoat. He looked outside through the plastic film with a hazy vision, singing a song and making driving movements with his hands.
When he noticed that the wheelchair had stopped, he continued to drive until he found that Chu Ya had not moved, then he looked up at him.
“Why isn’t it moving? Why isn’t it moving?”
Chu Ya did not answer, but just looked ahead silently, his lips tightly pursed, his hands nervously holding the wheelchair handles.
Shen Qianqian turned his head to look in the direction of his sight. The plastic film was even more blurred by the rain, but he could also see a figure in the distance, walking towards them from the other end of the street.
Shen Qianqian had never seen other people in Mixin Town. Noticing that Chu Ya was tense behind him, he also became tense, slowly lifted a corner of his raincoat, and stuck his head out to look.
The man was wearing a gray robe, holding a black umbrella in one hand and a large bag in the other. Shen Qianqian opened his mouth in surprise when he saw the gray robe. When he got closer and closer and his face under the umbrella came into view, he couldn’t help but shout: “Dean!”
“Hey.” Dean Liu responded from a distance.
“Dean.” Shen Qianqian shouted.
Dean Liu didn’t step firmly and almost slipped. After stabilizing his body, he replied: “Hey.”
“Dean…” Shen Qianqian put his hands to his mouth.
Chu Ya came back to his senses and raised his hand to hold Shen Qianqian: “Okay, the dean heard it.”
“Oh.”
The black wolf appeared on the roof beside the two of them and slowly walked towards Dean Liu. It moved silently on the cement bricks and tiles, and a cold light flashed from the tip of its claws from time to time.
Dean Liu had already come close and greeted them with a smile: “Oh, it’s really hard to find you. I wandered around in front all morning, and I only found you when I heard Shen Qianqian singing.”
“Yes, I’m singing.” Shen Qianqian smiled and stretched out his hand to drive: “Children, life is like this. Instead of being unhappy, why not sing with grandpa and bask in the sun… Did you hear me singing this?”
“Yes, and there are drip drip drip, drip drip drip.”
“There are some da da da da in between drip drip drip.”
The black wolf leaned over the wall and pretended to pounce down. Chu Ya glanced at it. It received Chu Ya’s eyes and stopped moving. It just shook its head impatiently to shake off the water drops on its head.
“It’s raining heavily today. Don’t let the child toss on the road. I’ll bring you the food.” The hem of Dean Liu’s gray robe was full of dark water marks, and there was a layer of mist on the lens. He spoke to Chu Ya naturally, as if he was an acquaintance he met on the street, and there was no abnormality in his tone and demeanor.
Dean Liu leaned down slightly to look at the child wrapped in plastic film: “Shen Qianqian.”
“Yes.” Shen Qianqian responded crisply.
Dean Liu raised the bag in his hand: “I brought you big buns.”
“Wow, big buns, great.”
Chu Ya knew that Dean Liu should not just send food, so he whispered: “Dean Liu, it’s raining heavily here, why don’t you come to my house and sit down.”
“Okay, let’s go and sit down.”
