Read And Be Lazy

Countless images flashed in his mind: Shen Meow was so hungry that he was crying in a wheelchair, Shen Meow was so hungry that he was lying on the ground crying, and Shen Meow was so hungry that he died.

Shen Qianqian began to run forward, his face sweating all over his face. He didn’t pay attention to his feet. He fell down with a thud, and he didn’t care that his hands hurt and his knees hurt, so he quickly got up and continued to run.

He heard the roar of rain, and the cold air was stained with damp moisture. In the distance, the pouring rain that fell from the sky seemed to pull out a dark curtain between the sky and the earth, and also cut the ground into dry and wet halves.

Shen Qianqian rushed straight forward, rushing into the rain curtain without hesitation.

His cotton hat was soon soaked, and the rain trickled down his neck, like a cold snake crawling in the shallow ditch of his back. His eyes were also stung open, and he fell and got up on the slippery road, stumbling towards the garbage dump.

The stagnant water poured into his cotton shoes, causing his feet to freeze and it to become slippery. But the hand that was dripping with rain kept holding the satchel tightly, protecting the bean cake and sweet potato inside.

When Shen Qianqian finally ran to the barbed wire, he already looked like a mud monkey. The whole person, including his entire face, was covered with mud, and only a pair of eyes were exposed.

He was hurrying along the barbed wire fence when he suddenly heard a familiar voice from the rain: “Shen Qianqian…… Shen Qianqian ……”

Shen Qianqian stopped and looked through the direction of where the sound was coming from. His gaze passed through the gap in the building and saw a familiar figure in a wheelchair on the opposite side.

Both of them stared at each other in the rain, through barbed wire and overwhelming rainwater.

Shen Qianqian was in a tense mood and never cried, but now looking at Chu Ya, he suddenly began to cry loudly: “Shen meow, Shen meow ……”

Chu Ya pushed the wheelchair and wanted to pass through the building, but the gap was too narrow, and his wheelchair was stuck in the mud, so he also shouted to Shen Qianqian up: “Go ahead…… Come in……”

Shen Qianqian ran to the entrance of the garbage dump, and Chu Ya also followed on the street. He pushed the wheelchair and moved eagerly, looking at Shen Qianqian in every crevice between the houses.

    Shen Meow Meow…… Woooo……”

    ” Come in….. Don’t cry……”

    “Shen meow.”

    “Yes.”

    “Shen—ouch!”

“Slow down! Don’t run, slow down!”

After Shen Qianqian fell a few more times, he finally rushed into the garbage dump, and Chu Ya also pushed his wheelchair to the entrance of the garbage dump.

Shen Qianqian ran in front of Chu Ya in one breath, almost stopped, and after barely stabilizing his body, he gasped and looked at the person in front of him.

Chu Ya’s whole body was also soaked. He watched Shen Qianqian in silence, his black hair falling down on his forehead, making his face more and more pale, and his eyes more and more dark and deep.

The rain pulled yellow-brown marks on Shen Qianqian on his face, and he pursed his lips and smiled with tears in his eyes, revealing a small white tooth that was missing. He patted his shoulder bag again, and his voice trembled: “For you, I bring food so you won’t be hungry. I have delicious yams here-“

Before he could finish speaking, his arm was grabbed and dragged into a damp, but radiating heat. He was stunned for a moment and subconsciously wanted to struggle. He immediately reacted but soon softened his stiff body. He laid in Chu Ya’s arms, his face pressed against his chest.

Chu Ya hugged the child very tightly, his chin against the top of his wet head, and he didn’t care about the rain that had stopped falling. He didn’t care about the dirt that was staining his body.

He had been on the tenth floor just now, and he had been looking in the direction of the welfare home.

When he thought that the child might never appear again, the whole world rose up and left him with only fear and loneliness. The overwhelming rain soaked his clothes, and the fear seeped into his body little by little, cold and biting.

He stubbornly waited upstairs, stubbornly staring at the end of the road, letting it get dark, rain raging, and his whole body was frozen to the point of no sleep.

When the small figure appeared in his field of vision, there was a moment of emptiness in his mind. The figure was getting closer and closer, and he saw the tiger-headed cotton hat clearly, only to feel that his eyes were hot, and the organs in his chest began to beat again, pumping hot blood rapidly to his cold body.

He rushed downstairs in a hurry, his wheelchair almost lost control, and finally the moment he took the child into his arms, tears and rain slid down.

“Shen Meow, are you starving to death?” Shen Qianqian fought with his teeth. He was small as he wiggled.

“I’m hungry.” Only then did Chu Ya let go of the person and said in a soft voice: “Let’s go. We should go back quickly.”

Chu Ya was in front of him. He then pushed the wheelchair back to the tin house, hunching his back slightly on the way and blocking the rain with his body. Shen Qianqian reached out to touch it in the satchel, and after a while, he handed a sweet potato to Chu Ya’s mouth: “Eat quickly, eat this quickly.”

Chu Ya saw that he was drenched by the rain, but he was still looking at himself anxiously, so he lowered his head, took a big bite on the sweet potato, and swallowed it with the rain.

Shen Qianqian breathed a sigh of relief and then handed it forward until he fed Chu Ya and ate the yam. When he was satisfied, he patted his head with his empty hand: “Now you will not starve to death.”

Back at the tin house, Chu Ya hurriedly boiled hot water and took him to the bathroom to take a hot shower despite Shen Qianqian’s resistance and sighing.

Chu Ya sat on the chair and poured hot water from a bucket on himself. Shen Qianqian cross-legged in the hot tub next to him, wiping the bubbles on his belly while chattering and stopping.

“I had to dig a hole.” He shook his wet head.

    “Dig a hole?”

“Yes, I dug with a spoon, I dug with an iron rod, I made a hole in the wall, and I crawled out.” Shen Qianqian said with both hands on his chest, making a hole digging movement.

Chu Ya consciously stopped his hand and looked at Shen Qianqian in a daze with a water scoop.

Although Shen Qianqian says whatever he was thinking, he could feel some of his emotions, and immediately began to coquettish in his voice: “I’m tired of digging, my arms are broken, and it hurts so much.”

Chu Ya still put down the water scoop, picked up his thin arm and kneaded it gently.

Chu Ya didn’t make a sound, only leaned down to help him take a bath.

After helping Shen Qianqian take a bath, he got into the quilt and turned on the bird’s nest heater to the maximum, so that the small tin house quickly warmed up.

“You eat some more, eat some more. There are sweet potatoes and bean cakes in the bag.” Shen Qianqiann urged him as they stayed under the quilt.

The outer skin of this satchel is a layer of plastic, and the inside is not wet. Chu Ya took out the yams and bean cakes and put them on the heater to bake.

“And the radish soup is for you.”

Chu Ya unscrewed the lid of the kettle, and the hot air overflowed with the fragrance of radish, wafting all over the tin house.

“This is called a radish, have you eaten it before? Oh, what I have brought, I have eaten.  Seeing that there are large radishes and small radishes in the bucket, the management gives  large radishes to me.” Shen Qianqian sat up and told Chu Ya in a happy tone.

Most of the food eaten in the welfare home is easy-to-preserve food, and there are not many vegetables. Shen Qianqian cherished them and swallowed a mouthful of saliva.

Chu Ya silently took a bowl and chopsticks, poured out all the radish soup in the kettle. He then told Shen Qianqian to move to the side of the bed, he picked up the radish and handed it over: “Open your mouth.”

“Ah, this radish is for you to eat.”

    “Come, open your mouth.”

Shen Qianqian opened his mouth and took a small bite of the radish, but Chu Ya withdrew his hand and insisted that he eat the whole piece.

Shen Qianqian ate the whole radish, and his eyes kept looking at Chu Ya brightly: “Shen Meow, you are so good. You give me radishes to eat.”

Chu Ya withdrew his chopsticks, pursed his lips, and said in a low voice when he turned his head: “Silly.”

As they drank the pot of radish soup and ate the yams and bean cakes, hot sweat broke out on the tip of Shen Qianqian’s nose. Chu Ya felt that the temperature in the house had risen, and Shen Qianqian should also start to feel warm, which allowed him to open the quilt and sit on the bed to play.

Shen Qianqian’s hands began to itch, so he cut off and scratched his fingers, pinched them with his nails, and held them and rubbed them. But the itch became more and more unbearable, and after he scratched it for a while, his head suddenly burst into flames. Hegrabbed the bear and smashed it on the bed: “Ah!”

Chu Ya was washing the dishes when he heard the noise. He turned his head and asked: “What’s wrong?”

“Itchy hands!!” Shen Qianqian shouted angrily, looking uncomfortable. He continued to be angry with the little bear, stepped forward and smashed it again, shaking his hands and humming quietly.

Chu Ya put down the washed dishes and chopsticks. He wiped his hands, pushed the wheelchair over, and pulled it and went to Shen Qianqian: “Let me have a look.”

He had seen the child’s hands with something like this on their fingers, like a few short, fat carrots. Now there are clear nail marks on the little carrot, and there are places that look like blood marks.

“Don’t scratch it, if you scratch it, it will stain.”

Shen Qianqian made a distorted face and hissed: “It’s itchy again, ah, it’s itchy again. I need to scratch and pinch it.”

“Don’t pinch, bear with it, wait.” Chu Ya said.

Chu Ya hurriedly went to a basin of warm water, put a spoonful of salt from the supermarket, brought it to the side of the bed and rested it on the stool. He grabbed Shen Qianqian’s hand and pressed it into the basin.

    “Ahh… So itchy.”

Shen Qianqian wanted to win back his hand, but Chu Ya grabbed the loose one and soothed him: “Don’t move!”

“Woooo……” Shen Qianqian twisted like an uncomfortable little worm.

“There is a measuring beast in front of you, and it goes to play in the forest. Did you see anything?” Chu Ya’s soft voice sounded.

“It- what was I supposed to see?” Shen Qianqian grinned.

“You saw it, you must’ve seen it……” Chu Ya, who had no experience in storytelling, improvised “You saw another measuring beast.”

“Is that measuring beast pretty? Woo……”

    “Beautiful.”

“What’s that good-looking beast look like?”

Chu Ya looked at him, his eyes were a little distant: “That’s the best-looking beast in the world, like a big kitten, with some flowers on its face and small ears.”

Shen Qianqian: “What? That can be a quantum beast?

“Yes, there are many kinds of beasts.” Chu Yai explained: “And not only a duck can become a beast.

“Oh, what is that beast you are talking about?”

“It’s a raccoon.” Chu Ya said in a low voice.

“You’re calling a raccoon is the best-looking beast?”

    “Yes, it’s very good.”

Chu Ya suddenly stopped his voice, no matter how Shen Qianqian chased after him, he also spoke. After a while, he turned around and went to clean up while Shen Qianqian’s hands are soaked in salt water. Fortunately, he also quieted down.
