    Chapter 1 – Encounter

The sun was no longer so hot in the October afternoon. Qi Xi was sitting on the bay window drawing with a drawing board. A pastoral orange cat half a meter long with its tail jumped down in the corner and landed. On the big suitcase below, and then jumped up the bay window.

“Don’t disturb me, Great Sage. My painting will be finished soon.”

Qi Xi used his feet to push away the orange cat that was trying to get into his arms, but the orange cat refused to give up. The cat’s head slipped under his arm and watched him paint.

The painting shows an orange cat coming on nebulae, exactly like it, holding a brilliant planet full of fantastic beasts in its mouth, as if it is coming out of the painting to give the planet to the person who painted it.

    “It’s finally over!”

Qi Xi put down his pen and looked at it for a moment. He then took a photo with his mobile phone and posted it online with the text: Thank you, Great Sage Qi Tian, for sending me a birthday gift and wishing me a happy birthday!

It’s a pity that he doesn’t have many fans and no one came to wish him a happy birthday.

Today is his 20th birthday. Ever since his mother passed away, no one has celebrated his birthday. No one even remembers his birthday, enough to say that he doesn’t even receive a birthday greeting.

Forget it, birthdays are no fun.

Qi Xi put away the paints and drawing board carelessly when there was a knock on the door.

The person who knocked on the door opened the door without waiting for him to answer. A woman with bright makeup stood at the door and glanced at him impatiently.

“Qi Xi, your dad is back. Come downstairs quickly. He has something to tell you.”

The woman just came to inform him, as if she opened the door without waiting for his response, and left without even looking at him.

At this time, there was the sound of a car downstairs. He rubbed the orange cat’s chin and said, “Great Sage, I’ll go and be right back.”

The living room downstairs was filled with excitement. Qi Zhounan won the third prize in the equestrian competition today. So, a bunch of his classmates and friends came back to celebrate.

Qi Zhounan is his half-brother, and the woman just now is his father’s second wife.

His mother died of illness when he was 12 years old. Half a year later, his father brought mother and son back. Qi Zhounan was already 6 years old at that time.

Qi Xi walked to the stairs and stopped, and his father Qi Feng happened to come in.

Qi Feng handed the briefcase to the nanny and came in with a gift box in his other hand. His eyes glanced at Qi Xi at first glance, but what he said was, “Zhounan, your gift.”

Qi Zhounan was surrounded in the living room. He ran over and took the gift box, “Thank you, Dad! It’s just a small prize. You even prepared a gift for me. I’m embarrassed.”

“This is to encourage you to participate in more advanced competitions next time and keep working hard, you know?”

    “I know.”

Qi Zhounan glanced at Qi Xi while holding the gift box. Qi Xi was sincerely envious, “My brother is so awesome. He can even win prizes on horseback.”

Qi Feng ridiculed, “You think everyone is like you and can’t do anything. Is that it?”

Qi Xi nodded in agreement, “Because I have bad genes, dad, don’t you know?”

His tone was too sincere, not at all like he was being sarcastic. He was just telling the truth honestly. The more this happened, the angrier Qi Feng became, but Qi Xi didn’t notice it at all. He walked up to him and asked with a smile: “Dad, didn’t you prepare a gift for me?”

    “You still want a gift?”

Qi Feng couldn’t even keep the false gentleness on his face, but he put on a controlling attitude as a father and said: “You are not young anymore. The old Li family member went abroad to study alone at the age of 16. It’s time for you to be independent. Your mom and I discussed it and you will move out tomorrow.”

    “Really?”

Qi Xi looked surprised, “Where should I move? You want to buy me a big house as a birthday gift?”

“What birthday gift?! What are you saying again? It’s just a birthday!”

Qi Feng didn’t realize it was Qi Xi’s birthday at all, and announced as if he wanted to discuss it with Qi Xi, “Your grandpa’s house has been empty there since he passed away. Old houses are prone to damage if left for a long time, so you just have to take care of it. If the house is in such bad condition, his old man will definitely be angry.”

Grandma Qi passed very early, and his grandfather raised a pair of children alone. Later, his son severed ties with him. They had no contact for many years. Less than half a year after his mother died of illness, he also passed away.

He was still young at that time and didn’t know how to deal with the house. After hearing Qi Feng’s words, he happily asked: “The house is for me? Can I move there now? Can I think of it as my 20th birthday gift from my father.” “

Qi Feng was surprised that Qi Xi would agree easily, and couldn’t help but look at the past. Qi Xi seemed really happy and rushed over to hug him, “Thank you, Dad. Even though you don’t remember my birthday, you still want to celebrate it by throwing me out. Even if that is the case, I still want to thank you!”

His face instantly turned dark, and Qi Xi let him go before his father spoke, “Today is your birthday?”

“Yes! It doesn’t matter if you don’t remember, just give me the key.”

Qi Xi smiled and stretched out his hand to him. His expression became even uglier. He glanced at his second wife and said, “Since it’s your birthday, we’ll discuss moving out in a few days… What do you want for your birthday? A gift?”

Qi Xi refused, “You’d better kick me out today, otherwise you will have to endure me for a few more days. Anyway, you have long wanted me to leave this house anyway.”

    “Qi Xi, that’s enough!”

Qi Feng couldn’t keep his face off. There were also Qi Zhounan’s classmates and friends in the living room, and now they were all quiet and watching their family’s gossip.

Qi Xi didn’t care at all, and ran upstairs happily, leaving him a message, “I’m going to pack my luggage now!”

He was so angry that he kicked the cabinet, and the vase on it stumbled down and fell to the floor.

When Qi Xi returned to his room, he rushed over and picked up the orange cat, “Great Sage, we can finally have our own home!”

    “Meow?”

The orange cat didn’t understand what Qi Xi was talking about, and Qi Xi didn’t care, so he quickly took out his things and stuffed everything he wanted to bring into his schoolbag. He then dragged out the suitcase that he had packed under the cat climbing frame, picked up the cat and went downstairs.

He dragged the suitcase downstairs from the elevator. Qi Zhounan’s friends and classmates had already left. Qi Feng didn’t expect him to be so fast. He looked at him strangely and asked, “You packed it up so quickly?”

Qi Xi replied, “Oh, I packed it up before. Remember last month when you told me to just leave if I don’t want to come back. Now, I want to leave. Please give me the key.”

In an instant, Qi Feng felt an inexplicable anger in his heart, and suddenly he didn’t want Qi Xi to just leave and move out like this.

His wife was afraid that he would regret it, so she quickly handed the key to Qi Xi and said, “Ask Lao Liu to take you there.”

Qi Xi laughed after getting the key and ran to the door dragging his suitcase without looking back.

“Qi Xi, are you leaving without even saying a word?”

Qi Feng suddenly roared. Qi Xi stopped and thought for a moment. He then turned around and said goodbye to him seriously, “Thank you, Dad, for driving me out on my 20th birthday. Goodbye!”

His grandfather’s house was allocated by his work unit back then. It was an old and shabby house decades ago, but it was located in the city center, in a school district, with convenient transportation and not far from his school.

The driver took him downstairs and helped him carry his suitcase to the door before leaving.

But Qi Xi took the key to open the door, but couldn’t open it. Just as he was wondering what was going on, the door of the house opened from the inside. A middle-aged man looked at him warily and asked, “What are you doing?”

Qi Xi asked back. , “Who are you? Why are you at my house?”

The middle-aged man looked at him even more confused, “What do you mean your house? Did you go to the wrong place?”

Qi Xi looked at the house number. Although he had not been there for seven or eight years, the memory of his childhood was still there, it was indeed his grandfather’s house.

He replied: “Did you go to the wrong place?”

“There is something wrong with you kid! This is my house, how could I go to the wrong place?”

“No, this is my grandpa’s house, and it is mine now.”

The middle-aged man, after being stunned for a while, suddenly asked: “Is your grandpa’s surname Qi?”

    “Yes! How did you know?”

The middle-aged man understood instantly, but was a little confused, and explained the cause situation to Qi Xi.

The street lights in the old corridor are dim, the walls are mottled, and there are all kinds of small advertisements posted everywhere. The air is filled with the musty smell of not seeing sunlight for many years.

Qi Xi listened carefully and thought for a long time, but still didn’t quite understand what was going on. He asked the middle-aged man at the door again: “Has this house really been sold to you?”

“I’ve said it several times, your uncle sold the house to us years ago. He said it was his parents’ inheritance and the procedures were complete. You said that this house belongs to you then you should go to your uncle. Do you understand?”

Qi Xi, who was filled with joy earlier, look like a bucket of cold water hitting him. His eyes turned red instantly. He said to the middle-aged man at the door: “But my father has kicked me out. I have no home to go back to. If the house was sold to you, what should I do?”

The middle-aged man at the door was getting impatient. When he bought the house, he knew it was an inheritance. He made sure there were no property rights disputes before buying it. The procedures were indeed complete. He didn’t expect that someone would come to the door with the key.

Moreover, the young man’s dress and temperament don’t look like someone who would live in such a decades-old house. It’s hard to tell whether he encountered some difficulties or something else.

Looking at Qi Xi’s appearance, he couldn’t bear to say unpleasant words and advised instead: “You said the house was left to you by your grandfather, then go to your uncle and ask him to give you the money for selling the house. If he doesn’t give it to you, you will have to live with it for I won’t leave.”

It seemed that this was the only way. Qi Xi thanked the man at the door, “Thank you, uncle. I am sorry for bothering you.”

He suddenly became so well-behaved and polite. The man felt guilty and quickly replied: “It’s okay. It’s okay.”

“Then I’ll go, see you uncle.”

Qi Xi turned around, but the corridor was narrow and his suitcase was too big. He didn’t notice the distance when he stepped back. He missed the step and both him and the suitcase went down the stairs. .

The man was so frightened that he closed his eyes. When he opened them again, he saw that Qi Xi had not fallen and had grabbed the railing next to him. Only the suitcase had slid to the next floor.

He asked worriedly: “Are you okay?”

Qi Xi raised his hand that had just carried the suitcase. His wrist was obviously misplaced and red and swollen. Tears welled up in his eyes, but he smiled at him, “My wrist seems to be twisted. It hurts a little.”

The man couldn’t bear it, “I’ll help -“

    “I’m really leaving, uncle. Goodbye.”

Qi Xi didn’t listen to what the man said. He turned around and ran down with the orange cat following closely behind him.

The man finally walked out of the door and looked down the stairs. He watched Qi Xi push the suitcase to the edge of the steps with his feet. He then kicked it down He couldn’t help but sig. It is a good thing that the quality of the suitcase was really good and that it was not broken.

Qi Xi drove the really good quality suitcase downstairs. He finally pushed it up and dragged it out of the unit door.

This is an old city. There are no clear divisions of residential areas. Residential buildings are built staggered together, forming intricate small lanes.

It was getting dark and the weather was getting colder. Qi Xi dragged the suitcase with his uninjured hand and walked around the twists and turns of the alley with the orange cat until they finally reached the roadside.

Qi Xi stopped and sat on the suitcase. He had no idea where his uncle lived.

His uncle became addicted to gambling when he was two or three years old. He refused to change his ways despite repeated admonitions. He severed ties with his grandfather and had no contact with him for more than ten years. He did not even come back to see his grandfather after his death.

Not to mention where he lives, he doesn’t even recognize anyone in front of him.

“Great Sage, we have nowhere to go!”

Qi Xi lay on the pulled up lever and said to the orange cat in front of the suitcase: “What will we do in the future?”

The orange cat didn’t understand, “Meow.”

“Why did my uncle sell my house? Where should I find him? Will he return the house to me?”

    “Meow?”

Qi Xi suddenly thought of a more urgent question, where will he live tonight? ?

    Go back shamelessly?

Qi Xi’s subconscious rejected this option faster than his brain. The woman had never abused him, but he felt like a bastard son all the time in that home, which made him extremely uncomfortable.

For example, no one ever forgets Qi Zhounan’s birthday. No matter what the occasion is, Qi Zhounan always has a gift, but no matter what he says, he will only get a cold face, be reprimanded, and get scolding from his father.

“It’s okay. I am 20 years old today and can support myself.”

Qi Xi, who has always been optimistic, turned on his phone to check the balance in his card.

Others say that he is a rich second generation living in a villa. In fact, his clothes are wholesaled and packaged in the mall every quarter. He usually has 2,000 living expenses per month. Apart from buying cat food, paint, and daily expenses, he basically has no other things to spend on.

    But there is nothing left.

Sure enough, he refreshed it again and again, but there were still only more than 1,000.

    “Alas!”

Qi Xi let out a long sigh, half of his ambition was gone, and all the stress in his body was pressed against the suitcase’s lever.

    Snapped!

The lever suddenly loosened its buckle and retracted. He lost his support and fell forward with the suitcase. He was lying on the road, and his phone slipped several meters away from his hand.

A car happened to drive over and was about to run over the phone.

His mobile phone is now his most expensive possession, and without it he can’t take a taxi, eat, or stay in a hotel, and he can’t spend a penny.

Qi Xi rushed out without thinking. He was so frightened that the car suddenly braked and made a sharp friction sound before it stopped in front of him.

The orange cat was also frightened and rushed to Qi Xi’s side, grabbing his trousers and dragging him back.

Qi Xi was not afraid at all. He picked up the orange cat and stepped aside as if nothing happened. He smiled at the car window even if he couldn’t see anything inside. “I’m sorry, I scared you.”

He didn’t know if the people in the car heard what he had just said.

He waited until the car drove away before returning to his suitcase. He lets go of the orange cat and squatted down, holding his wrist that was hurt even more by the fall, and burying his face in his knees.

The orange cat took out his hair as if to comfort him, but he can only say, “It hurts me to death!”

    “Meow.”

The orange cat rubbed his calf with its head, and he gently sniffed lightly and picked up the rescued mobile phone, “Fortunately, the mobile phone didn’t-“

    Can’t boot!

It’s no use trying to save it, it’s already broken!

Qi Xi was so angry that he gently put his cell phone in his suitcase and then patted it hard, just to teachi his now useless phone a lesson. “I tried my best to save you, why are you so weak? You will do whatever you say! Don’t you know you’re important? If you break, I won’t have a penny. Look at my hand—”

Only then did he notice that his hand that was just slightly dislocated, now became completely broken. Not in his original position, his eyes widened in horror, “My hand seems to be broken!”

    Oh!

A sudden car horn interrupted Qi Xi. He was startled. He looked up and saw that the car that had almost hit him had circled back and stopped in front of him.

He looked up and saw the back seat door opened, and a very tall man walked out and walked directly in front of him.

He met the man’s gaze, subconsciously hugged the orange cat and stood up. Not knowing what the other man was going to do, he straightened his body nervously and spoke.

    “Are you okay?”

The man said nothing and stared at him motionlessly, not knowing what he was examining.

He looked back at him as if he was struggling, and found that the man was more than half a head taller than him, maybe 1.9 meters tall. He was wearing a neat suit, his hair was neatly styled, and he was wearing a pair of gold-rimmed glasses. He naturally exuded a certain exquisite and intimidating aura. Perfect temperament, just like the male protagonist in the comics.

Good-looking people should not be bad people, right?

He hesitantly asked the man for help, “My phone was broken and I can’t take a taxi. Can you take me home?”
