Qi Xi caught a cold again because he soaked in the swimming pool for too long yesterday and didn’t put on his clothes immediately after getting up. He started to have a fever in the middle of the night.
When Fu Yanchuan found out, he began to blame himself. During this period of time, Qi Xi’s health had improved a lot thanks to his care. Qi Xi also wanted to exercise, and although his muscles were not built up, his health was indeed better. He was so excited that he forgot to be cautious.
“Brother Yan, what time is it?”
Qi Xi’s voice was heavily nasal, and he sounded weak. Fu Yanchuan leaned over to him through the quilt, touched his red face due to fever, and said distressedly, “Do you still want to go?”
“Well, what time is it?”
Qi Xi was about to lift the quilt and get up, but was held down by Fu Yanchuan. He insisted, “Brother Yan, I want to go! I want to learn, become powerful, become excellent, and be worthy of you.”
The last sentence made Fu Yanchuan’s heart twitch. He leaned forward and pressed his forehead against Qi Xi’s and said, “Xixi, you are already very outstanding. It’s just that someone like me is not worthy of you.”
“No, you can do everything, but I can’t do anything. I can’t even handle my own affairs. I don’t want to be like this forever. Can you accompany me?”
Fu Yanchuan’s breath stagnated in his chest for a while, and finally he exhaled, “Okay, if you begin to feel uncomfortable, we can always come back.”
Qi Xi hummed softly, but he didn’t move away. Instead, he leaned over and kissed Qi Xi’s lips, which were particularly hot because of this fever.
“No, it will spread–“
He ignored Qi Xi’s refusal and squeezed in while his lips were open. The temperature was even hotter than usual as if to engrave something in his senses. Fu Yanchauh licked every part of Qi Xi’s mouth, and the loss of moisture caused by the fever made it easier to pull up the water line.
Qi Xi was finally released, and he closed his mouth and glared in dissatisfaction. Fu Yanchuan admitted his fault only after the kiss was over. “I’m not good. Take medicine first, then eat something, okay?”
Qi Xi felt very dizzy and couldn’t think of anything. He could only believe whatever Fu Yanchuan said.
Fu Yanchuan first helped him up, made him sit up against the pillow then covered him with the quilt before going to get the medicine and porridge.
The medicine was provided by the hotel, and he specially asked someone to cook the porridge and keep it hot in the kitchen.
He first gave Qi Xi the medicine then brought the porridge to the bedside and fed him spoonful by spoonful. He felt sorry for Qi Xi’s illness, but he also enjoyed the way Qi Xi relied on him. Sometimes he thought back to before he met Qi Xi, and he probably didn’t think that he would be able to do these things so skillfully one day.
After Qi Xi drank the porridge, Fu Yanchuan pushed him back to sleep for a while. He was afraid of missing the time, so he told Fu Yanchuan to wake him up.
The first day of the exchange meeting was for well-known people in the industry to share their experiences and technologies. Admission began at 9 o’clock and the meeting officially started at 9:30, but the sharing that Qi Xi wanted to hear would not be until 10 o’clock.
Fu Yanchuan wanted Qi Xi to continue sleeping countless times. He could guarantee that Qi Xi could paint to his heart’s content without any worries for the rest of his life or help Qi Xi become a famous painter. A single painting could easily be sold for millions, and Qi Xi wouldn’t have to work hard to make animations, let alone listen to other people’s experiences while he was sick.
If Qi Xi really likes animation that much, he can also form a top team to cooperate with him, and Qi Xi can draw whatever he wants.
But at half past nine, he still went to wake him up.
“Xixi, can you get up?”
Qi Xi opened his eyes and looked at Fu Yanchuan for a long time, “Am I late?”
Fu Yanchuan picked him up from the quilt and said, “It’s not too late. Put on your clothes first.”
Cheng Shu had been waiting for Qi Xi at the door. He called Qi Xi early in the morning and Fu Yanchuan answered the phone, saying that Qi Xi had a fever. The weather didn’t get colder and it didn’t rain, and he was fine yesterday. As a married adult man, the only reason he could think of was that Fu Yanchuan had done something.
Seeing Qi Xi and Fu Yanchuan coming late and not in a hurry, he was very displeased with Fu Yanchuan. After working together for a period of time, he not only liked Qi Xi’s paintings, but also liked Qi Xi’s talent and aura, and also regarded Qi Xi as a younger brother.
“I’m sorry, Director Cheng, I’m late.”
Qi Xi looked weak. Seeing Cheng Shu apologize first, Cheng Shu swallowed his anger and asked him, “Is it serious? If you’re too sick, you must go and rest.”
“I’m fine. I’ve taken some medicine and I’m feeling much better.”
As Qi Xi spoke, he pushed away Fu Yanchuan who was hugging him. Cheng Shu glanced at Fu Yanchuan, and the blame expressed in his eyes was obvious. Fu Yanchuan actually lowered his head and admitted it.
It was really Fu Yanchuan who did this! Cheng Shu was so angry that he cursed in his heart, but he said calmly: “Go in, I’ve saved a seat for you.”
They arrived late and walked very carefully. The room was like a large tiered classroom. There were other colleagues who came with them and waved to them as soon as they saw them.
There was a table at the seat. When Qi Xi sat down, he found that others had either brought tablets or computers and were taking notes, but he had brought nothing.
“Listen, I remembered.”
Fu Yanchuan sat next to Qi Xi. He took out a mini tablet and a pen from his clothes. Qi Xi looked at him in surprise and asked, “When did you bring it?”
He didn’t answer. The lights inside were dim. He reached his hand from under the table and placed it on Qi Xi’s thigh, squeezing it lightly, signaling him not to speak.
Qi Xi looked towards the stage obediently, but Fu Yanchuan suddenly touched his hand, grabbed it and let him press it on his leg. He then started taking notes as if nothing had happened.
Today’s program is divided into two sessions, morning and afternoon, both of which are experience sharing and technical exchanges. Cheng Shu originally planned to take Qi Xi to meet his colleagues during the halftime, but Fu Yanchuan took him away just after the stage ended. He thought that Qi Xi had a cold, so he let it go.
The second day was for film watching and exchange. Simply put, it was to show one’s own film, share technical experience, and let peers evaluate it. However, due to limited time, most of the films were short films or finely edited versions.
After a night, Qi Xi felt much better and sat on the stage watching very seriously. They worked on it for several months and edited a pilot short film. When they played it, he was particularly nervous and subconsciously held Fu Yanchuan’s hand.
Fu Yanchuan didn’t need to take notes today. All his attention was focused on Qi Xi. When he saw Qi Xi getting nervous, he realized that the animation played on the screen was made by Qi Xi.
He often went to the studio during this period, but he only saw Qi Xi drawing and did not see the finished animation. At this moment, when he looked over, his gaze was suddenly fixed.
He was already very familiar with Qi Xi’s painting style, but seeing it move still shocked him again as if everything in the painting would tear through the screen and pour out in the next second. The flow of colors was extremely impactful.
Fu Yanchuan was not the only one in the audience who was amazed. Most people exclaimed in amazement. Regardless of the story, the picture itself was full of stories and emotions, so warm that it seemed as if they could empathize with the protagonist.
After the short film about Zhong ended, there was silence for several seconds and then applause broke out.
Cheng Shu was invited to the stage as the director. He picked up the microphone and said, “I think you may not be interested in me, so let me introduce our master painting artist to you.”
Before Qi Xi realized that someone was calling him, he subconsciously looked at Fu Yanchuan.
Fu Yanchuan let go of Qi Xi’s hand and paused for a moment before saying, “Go.”
The people in the venue finally saw someone standing up, and they all looked at Qi Xi. They all showed surprised expressions because Qi Xi looked too young.
Qi Xi walked towards the stage under everyone’s gaze. Fu Yanchuan stared at his back without blinking. The spotlight shone on him, and he felt as if Qi Xi was about to leave him.
When they got on stage, the host handed the microphone to Qi Xi, “I didn’t expect you to be such a young and handsome guy. It seems like no one knows you yet. Please introduce yourself first.”
“I’m–“
Qi Xi nervously clenched the microphone and looked at Fu Yanchuan again. When he met Fu Yanchuan’s gaze, he seemed to gain some strength and finally said, “Hello everyone, my name is Qi Xi, and I am the original artist of Cheng Shu Studio. This is my first work and my first time to contact animation. I learned a lot in the process. Thank you very much, Director Cheng, for giving me the opportunity.”
Cheng Shu continued, “I dare not say that. I invited Mr. Qi to come after visiting him twice.”
Qi Xi answered without thinking, “That’s because Cheng’s friend cheated me. I started to think Director Cheng was also a liar.”
The people in the audience burst into laughter, and the only one who remained calm was Fu Yanchuan.
When Fu Yanchuan thought of the young boy holding the cat on the roadside at the beginning, he really realized how much Qi Xi had changed. At this moment, there was no longer the timidity and lack of confidence in Qi Xi’s eyes, and he would not hide and dare not speak when asked a question by others.
He knew that one day Qi Xi would become dazzling and be seen by more people.
But he didn’t expect it to come so soon, and at this moment he felt that he was about to lose control of Qi Xi.
Perhaps once he steps off this stage, Qi Xi will no longer be Xixi that belongs to him alone.
After the film screening, there was lunch, which was the final process of the entire exchange meeting, mainly to allow everyone to communicate freely.
It was the first time that Qi Xi shared his experience in front of so many people. He was excited and nervous. After he stepped down from the stage, he returned to Fu Yanchuan and couldn’t help but quietly asked, “Brother Yan, how did I perform? Was it okay?”
Fu Yanchuan was not as happy as he thought. He looked at him for a long time, smiled at him with a complicated look that he did not understand, and said, “Very good, I knew you could do it.”
Qi Xi didn’t know what Fu Yanchuan was thinking, but he noticed that Fu Yanchuan was unhappy, and he seemed depressed until lunch.
But there were so many people who came to talk to him that Fu Yanchuan was squeezed out of sight if he wasn’t paying attention. Qi Xi finally finished talking to one person and was about to go find Fu Yanchuan, but someone else blocked his way.
“Hello, Qi Xi.”
Qi Xi was a little uncomfortable with the attention he received for the first time. He tried hard to behave appropriately, and in his mind, he used Fu Yanchuan as a reference template and replied, “Hello.”
“My name is Zheng Longcheng, maybe you’ve heard of me.”
Qi Xi had never heard of him, but he knew it was impolite to say it directly, so he subconsciously looked for Cheng Shu for help, but he didn’t see anyone.
Zheng Longcheng didn’t mind it, and said it in a different way: “I am a producer. I’ve worked on Kunlun.”
Finally, Qi Xi knew it. He breathed a sigh of relief and replied, “I know. I’ve seen it. It’s very good.”
“That’s a great honor. What do you think? Are you interested in participating in our project?”
Qi Xi was still not very clear about the twists and turns between the producer and the director, and instinctively felt that he should refuse, so he said: “I’m sorry, I’m afraid not. I promised Director Cheng that I won’t consider anything else for the time being.”
“It’s okay, it’s okay. There will be plenty of opportunities in the future. Here is my business card. You can contact me when you are free.”
Zheng Longcheng gave his business card to Qi Xi, who took it and said, “I’m sorry, I don’t have a business card. Can I just give you my phone number?”
“No problem, we’ll call each other then.”
“Okay.”
Qi Xi and Zheng Longcheng exchanged phone numbers and immediately found Fu Yanchuan while hiding from others. He pulled Fu Yanchuan behind a pillar where no one was, put his head on Fu Yanchuan’s shoulder and said, “Why are they talking so much? I don’t even know them.”
Fu Yanchuan spoke after a long while, “Don’t like it?”
Qi Xi leaned against his shoulder and shook his head, “Not really. They know more than me , and I can learn from them. But it’s so tiring, I’m afraid of saying the wrong thing. I always have to think a lot, it’s so taxing.”
Fu Yanchuan wanted to tell Qi Xi that this showed that he had grown up and understood the adaptability in interpersonal relationships, but what he said was, “We can go back when you are tired, okay?”
Qi Xi’s fever had subsided, but he still had a headache. He nodded and said, “I’ll talk to Director Cheng.”
“Send him a message.”
Fu Yanchuan didn’t want Qi Xi to go find Cheng Shu as he didn’t know how long it would take before he could leave even if he found him.
Qi Xi looked at him and agreed.
After lunch, most people would go back in the afternoon, and Cheng Shu also booked a flight for the afternoon, but Fu Yanchuan changed the flight because Qi Xi was sick.
Qi Xi didn’t eat anything at the lunch. When he returned to the hotel, Fu Yanchuan took him to eat first. After dinner, he returned to their room and started to have a fever again. The improvement today seemed to be deliberately made in order to look good so that others would know him.
Fu Yanchuan made Qi Xi take medicine and stayed with him until he fell asleep. Then he got out of bed and walked to the window, staring at the gray sky outside in a daze. Today’s weather was just like his mood, all gloomy.
It was already midnight when Qi Xi woke up. He didn’t know if it was the effect of the medicine, but he felt very energetic and all the uncomfortable parts of his body felt better. The only uncomfortable thing was that his pajamas were stuck to his body because of sweat.
He tried to get out of Fu Yanchuan’s arms and take a shower, but he was grabbed.
The night light was on in the room. Fu Yanchuan pushed Qi Xi back into the quilt and asked, “Do you want to go to the bathroom?”
“I’m going to take a shower.”
Fu Yanchuan frowned, “Wash tomorrow.”
“It’s so uncomfortable, I have to wash now.” Qi Xi arched twice in Fu Yanchuan’s arms, grabbed Fu Yanchuan’s hand and touched his pajamas, “If you touch it, it will become sticky. My cold is healed, really.”
“That won’t work either. Let me get you a towel to wipe it.”
“Brother Yan!”
Qi Xi hugged Fu Yanchuan with all his limbs, rubbed his chest and said, “Why don’t you believe me? I’m really fine.”
Fu Yanchuan finally compromised helplessly, “Lie back first, I’ll go fill the bathtub.”
“Thank you, Brother Yan.”
Qi Xi kissed Fu Yanchuan on the lips. Fu Yanchuan got out of bed to run the shower. When he was done, he came back to call him. Qi Xi quickly got out of bed and ran to the bathroom, taking off all his clothes along the way. He only felt embarrassed when he met Fu Yanchuan at the bathroom door.
“Because it’s uncomfortable and sticky.”
Fu Yanchuan said nothing, closed the bathroom door, and was locked in with Qi Xi. He took off his shirt and carried Qi Xi into the bathtub, “I’ll help you wash.”
Qi Xi felt comfortable the moment he sat in the hot water. Fu Yanchuan reached his hand in from outside the bathtub. Qi Xi grabbed Fu Yanchuan’s hand in the water, turned around and said to Fu Yanchuan face to face: “Brother Yan, why are you unhappy today?”
Fu Yanchuan did not answer. Qi Xi pulled his hand down, blushing and kissing him on the lips. He then asked, “Are you angry? I’m not that smart. If you don’t tell me, I won’t understand.”
Fu Yanchuan’s hand was pressed in a place that distracted him. Qi Xi might not only be gifted in painting, but also knew how to torture him.
His fingertips went in uncontrollably, and he controlled his expression and replied, “I’m not angry, Xixi.”
“But you have been unhappy all day long.”
Fu Yanchuan realized that his emotions were all discovered. It was as if Qi Xi had seen through the darkness in his heart. He stood up and moved towards the bathtub and said, “Xixi, if I’m not as good as you think? Will you dislike me?”
Qi Xi didn’t understand, “Why are you not as good as I thought? I think you are good in every way and I like you in every way.”
“I’m not okay.”
Fu Yanchuan blurted out, “Xixi, I’m not a good person. I’m selfish, despicable, and profit-driven. I want to possess you. I want you to belong to me alone. I want you to be watched by only me, do you understand?”
